Description
This role will report to the Malaysia Country Manager with a dotted reporting line to the Regional Financial Controller. He/she is responsible for day-to-day Finance operations, accounting processes, and reporting functions for various Shipco offices in Malaysia.
The Accounting Manager will also support the Group's financial strategy, budgeting, cash flow management, planning and analyses, instilling a keen focus on AR collections throughout the organization.
He/she is expected to build a proactive and motivated business-partnering Finance function, implement strategies to improve efficiencies and reduce costs, ensure compliance with corporate rules and policies, as well as local statutory and regulatory requirements.
What You'll Do...
- Oversee the month-end closing process and deliver accurate and timely financial reports and reconciliations within stipulated reporting deadlines.
- Work with Country Manager, GMs, and Operations to provide monthly analyses on results vs Plan vs Forecast, and develop intervention plans as needed.
- Lead AR collection efforts by monitoring AR aging, initiating weekly AR meetings with Country Manager/GMs and Operations, following up and reporting on agreed action plans.
- Guide and oversee the annual budgeting process.
- Provide internal management reports and financial information as needed to meet local business needs and support decision-making.
- Perform periodic reviews of key business processes to ensure proper controls and procedures are in place.
- Instill a culture of continuous improvement by eliminating inefficiencies and automating manual tasks in the Finance processes.
- Improve operating cash flows and accuracy of cash flow forecasts by instituting good controls over credit collections and operating costs.
- Lead the local Finance teams and develop Finance into a proactive and business-partnering function through training and mentoring.
- Provide input to the development of global/regional processes and ensure that these are implemented in the local offices.
- Oversee banking relationships and maintain strong controls over bank account operations.
- Ensure new vendors are properly evaluated and approved.
- Monitor bad debts and legal case status with the company lawyer.
- Manage relationships and coordinate work schedule and deliveries with tax advisors, corporate secretary, and external auditors.
What You'll Need...
- Accountancy Degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the same capacity.
- Qualified Chartered Accountant is an advantage.
- Able to keep a full set of accounts.
- An organized and meticulous person with a good eye for details.
- A hands-on leader with experience in managing, leading, and nurturing Finance staff.
- A strong team player who is able to work independently, under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
- High energy and self-motivated, with a strong sense of integrity and personal accountability.
- Able to read, speak, and write in English. Strong computer skills in MS Office as well as accounting systems.
