Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a dynamic, strategic leader for the role of Executive Director, Performance Reporting & Operational Review (Executive Director). Reporting to the Senior Program Director, Systems Strategy & Clinicial Excellence, and part of the Systems Strategy & Clinical Excellence team, the Executive Director leads AHS’ performance reporting and operational service delivery plans for clinical sites to ensure operational excellence. A systemic thinker and results-driven leader, you bring a deep understanding of healthcare systems and a passion for improvement and innovation. AHS’ Systems Strategy & Clinicial Excellence team is an integrated team focused on driving provincial and site-level initiatives, providing rapid response support to leaders, and developing proactive plans to ensure acute care facilities are operating at the highest levels comprised of the SWAT Team, Optimization Team, and Performance Reporting & Operational Review. Description: The Executive Director, Performance Reporting & Operational Review (Executive Director) is accountable for gathering and analyzing report card data provided by Acute Care Alberta for acute care sites. The role will require building close connections to acute care site and corridor leaders across the province to review data, identifying areas and opportunities for improvement, and determine where deployment of additional supports (like the SWAT team) is required for implementation of strategic and operational solutions. This role also determines plans for operational service delivery at the site-level in collaboration with site and corridor leadership. Skilled interpersonal and relationship building skills will allow the Executive Director to successfully partner with peers in the Systems Strategy & Clinical Excellence teams as well as leaders through acute care clinical operations to ensure regular and thorough operational reviews and timely response to report card data.
The successful candidate possesses a master’s degree in healthcare administration or related healthcare field. You bring at least ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare, with at least three (3) years in a senior management role. Additionally you have at least three (3) years’ experience focused on performance measurement, operational review, or strategic planning, and you have demonstrated experience in leading large-scale performance improvement initiatives in an acute care environment.
A visionary leader, you focus on innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement, and foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and high performance. Skilled in conflict resolution, negotiation, and change management, you have proven track record in managing cross-functional teams and driving organizational change through data-informed decision-making. With strong knowledge of healthcare systems, funding models, and regulatory requirements in acute care settings, you also bring deep understanding of healthcare performance metrics, quality improvement frameworks, and operational efficiency methodologies. You possess strong analytical skills, is proficient in data visualization tools, performance dashboards, and business intelligence platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), and are able to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable insights. An exceptional communicator and relationship-builder, you have demonstrated ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels. A strategic thinker with a systems-level perspective, you have the ability to align performance initiatives with organizational goals.
Certification in healthcare leadership or executive management (e.g., Certified Health Executive, Canadian College of Health Leaders) is an asset.
