A community healthcare provider in McLennan is seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) to join its laboratory team. Your Opportunity: We are currently seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) to join our laboratory team. This role offers a consistent weekday-only schedule, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking work–life balance while contributing to patient care in a community setting. You’ll enjoy a varied, hands-on role: Collecting, preparing, and handling specimens for analysis. Performing ECGs and phlebotomy. Supporting accurate data entry and patient record management. Maintaining equipment and ensuring a safe, efficient lab environment and collaborating closely with technologists, nurses, and physicians. In addition to a competitive hourly wage, Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) offers a Remote Retention Allowance of up to $3,000 annually. This non-pensionable allowance is paid on an hourly basis for all hours worked at the basic rate of pay. Preference will be given to certified Medical Laboratory Assistants. Description: As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Equivalency is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and/or Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and/or MLT or CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. Upon hire, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT or NAIT. The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the HSAA collective agreement.
Proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen handling. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Connect Care and computer experience.
