A leading South African thermal coal business is seeking an Environmental Superintendent for an 11-month fixed-term contract in eMalahleni. The successful candidate will oversee the ISO14001 environmental management system, ensuring legal compliance and environmental performance. Key responsibilities include managing environmental audits, permits, and identifying operational impacts. Applicants need a degree in Environmental Management and 5+ years of relevant experience in the mining sector. Competitive salary and further employee benefits are offered.

Thungela Resources [Thungela means “to ignite” in isiZulu] is a leading South African thermal coal business, focused exclusively on thermal coal production. It is one of the largest pure‑play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.
You will oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of the environmental systems through implementing and maintaining the ISO 14001 management system. While ensuring the mines retain the ISO 14001 certificate for the year and champion the environmental audits so that Operations are legally compliant.
