ENVIROMENTALIST
Job Summary:
The position is responsible for overseeing the environmental impact of construction projects, ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations, and promoting sustainable construction practices. The role involves conducting environmental impact assessments, developing, and implementing environmental management plans (EMPs), and monitoring construction activities to minimize pollution, manage waste, and protect natural resources. The Environmentalist works closely with project managers, engineers, and external stakeholders to ensure that projects align with environmental sustainability goals and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct environmental assessments and prepare Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs).
- Develop and implement Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for construction projects.
- Monitor site activities for environmental compliance, ensuring adherence to relevant laws and standards.
- Recommend corrective actions to mitigate environmental risks such as pollution, habitat destruction, and waste generation.
- Promote sustainable practices, including water conservation, energy efficiency, and waste reduction.
- Liaise with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and community groups regarding environmental concerns.
- Prepare reports on environmental performance and compliance for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, or a related field.
- Certification in Environmental Management (e.g., ISO 14001) or related areas is an advantage.
- Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations affecting the construction industry.
- Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) training or certification is preferred.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience working in environmental management or sustainability roles, preferably within the construction or infrastructure sector.
- Experience in conducting environmental assessments and creating environmental management plans (EMPs).
- Knowledge of waste management, water conservation, and pollution control in construction projects.
- Experience in liaising with government bodies, regulatory authorities, and community stakeholders on environmental issues.
- Familiarity with sustainability practices and integrating environmental considerations into construction processes.
- Ability to manage and monitor environmental compliance on construction sites and recommend corrective actions.
