Job Title: Senior Manager: Transport (Fleet) Operations

Job Description:

Job function: To provide guidance to business on the strategic direction as it pertains to fleet, tyres, maintenance and workshops. Responsible for continuous improvement in safety and optimal use of advances in digitization and technology in support of group initiatives.

Key performance areas:

1. Implement corporate governance and compliance policies in order to manage risk liabilities.
2. Analyse, interpret and produce detailed reports explaining trends, discrepancies and inconsistencies measured against planned activities.
3. Develop initiatives to enhance customer service excellence.
4. Develop and implement a medium term technical strategy considering fleet depreciation, replacement and disposal policies ensuring continuous reduction in carbon footprint and overall reduction in total cost of ownership.
5. Optimise group maintenance and workshops to ensure competitiveness and alignment with global trends.
6. Engage suppliers or original equipment manufacturers on technical matters, such as product performance, warranties, technical issues and recalls.
7. Manage supplier SLA and KPI performance targets through monthly review meetings and annual SLA review negotiations.
8. Maintain supplier relationships and promote reciprocal opportunities.
9. Attend the Group Technical Steering Committee with effective quarterly meetings and develop relevant KPIs for evaluation.
10. Maintain accurate and relevant fleet, vehicle maintenance and tyre statistics and analysis, presenting actionable insights to the Group Technical Steering Committee and business unit forums.
11. Consolidate, track and investigate deviations between budgeted maintenance, tyres and fuel cpk’s against actual with a focus on optimal cost per vehicle.
12. Responsible for the management of strategic fleet across the business.
13. Implement and maintain workshop and tyre management systems and ensure adequate support and training is provided to business units.
14. Own and update the business fleet asset register.
15. Develop and implement policies and practices in business units to align with business strategy and policies.
16. Engage with logistics industry and regulatory bodies to stay abreast of and influence trends.
17. Remain on the cutting edge of developments in digitisation and technology and investigate and test advancements to achieve business strategy.
18. Evaluate performance and fuel consumption of new fleet on routes.
19. Conduct internal workshop audits and technical due diligence on business acquisitions.
20. Manage the internal warranty fund.
21. Advise operating companies on capital budgets including preparation for AFE approvals.
22. Manage annual capital expenditure within approved budget limits.
23. Effective management of fleet acquisitions and disposals for the business including AFE motivations.
24. Support business units to achieve performance improvement targets.
25. Advise operating companies on bespoke fleet solutions for new initiatives aligned with overall group strategy.
26. Coordinate driver training initiatives between original equipment manufacturer, driver training department and business units.
27. Assist business units in evaluating relevant driver complaints and accident reporting.
28. Implement and manage workforce planning, recruitment, learning and development, performance management, reward and recognition and employee relations to ensure an optimal working environment.
29. Monitor maintenance per vehicle and provide insight on fleet that are not economical to repair and replacement strategy.
30. Create an engaging, enabling and productive work climate aligned to the employee value proposition by demonstrating leadership through personal commitment to organisational values.
31. Proficient in the management of Agents and Subcontractor network.
32. Work with the TMS team to optimise fleet utilization, deployment and management of strategic fleet.
33. Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to drive customer experience and reduce costs.
34. Develop a plan for practice changes and specify the priorities of delivery plans and resources needed for 1 to 2 years.
35. Contribute to the setting of budgets, minimise expenditure and manage costs and assets effectively.
36. Develop and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders that contribute to a culture of customer service excellence.
37. Evaluate metrics, report on campaign results and determine ROI.

Experience: Up to 8 years of experience in a similar environment with at least 5 years operational leadership or specialist experience.
