This is an exciting opportunity to join the Pediatrics team at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. We are an interdisciplinary team who provides care to Pediatrics patients requiring Medical, Surgical and/or Psychiatric care. We support our fellow departments within the Women & Children's Health Portfolio. Staff also provide care to adult patients as needed.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0).
Additional Required Qualifications:
1-2 years acute care experience. PALS certification required within 6 months of hire. Strong assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to patient/client change in status. Communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of specific patients/clients and relay patient/client information to physicians who are often off-site in a concise, accurate manner in order to facilitate the physician’s treatment decisions. Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills. Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment and to effectively contribute to patient/client care planning processes. Strong written and verbal communication required. Demonstrated leadership skills required. Demonstrated skills in conflict management. Ability to safeguard AHS information as private and confidential. Ability to follow and adhere to AHS policies, procedures, goals and objectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference given to those who have Pediatrics experience. Proven technical and clinical skills pertinent to Pediatric nursing preferred. Knowledge of new/current trends in Pediatrics nursing preferred. Current pediatric IV therapy/experience preferred. Charge nurse experience. Current knowledge of Cardio/Respiratory monitoring preferred. Pediatric Mental Health experience beneficial.
