Position Summary
This is a full-time seasonal position, from March/April to October/November with the possibility to extend. The Seasonal Production Assistant works closely with the Production Assistant to ensure all activities associated with the manufacture and shipment of fire retardant and affiliated products are executed to meet customer needs.
The batch mixing process is the most important part of this position, as our concentrated fire retardant is relied on by firefighting agencies throughout western Canada. Shipping & receiving finished goods and raw materials by forklift and the use of self-priming centrifugal pumps are other duties required of this position. The Seasonal Production Assistant may also be needed to assist in the ongoing facility & equipment maintenance program as well as working on special projects once appropriately trained.
The Seasonal Production Assistant performs all company related business in a professional, safe, and efficient manner, adhering to Perimeter Solutions Environmental Health Safety & Security (EHS&S) and Human Resources (HR) policies.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist in fire-retardant mixing and quality control
- Participate in product transfer and re-circulating process within the tank farm
- Understand and assist with weekly updates to the Inventory Control team
- Assist in the spring set-up and fall shut down of Tank Farm
- Active participation in the Production On-call program
- Ensure weekly visual Tank Farm inspections are performed
- Ensure timely Tanker Trailer inspections are completed to prevent loss of use
- Become part of storage tank cleanout team
- Active participation in facility and yard housekeeping
- Use of forklift and other mobile equipment in both loading and off-loading of materials
- Assists in other activities and projects as required after receiving appropriate training
- Hours are 8-5 Mon to Fri with paid on-call every second week.
- Travelling to other locations for short periods to assist Field Service staff.
Requirements
- Valid GDL or either Class 5,3,1 Driver’s License
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Forklift Certified (can be trained)
- Fall Prevention Certified (can be trained)
- Extended work periods are to be expected during fire season (April to September)
- Work requirements include availability after hours (Production On-call) and possible travel
- The nature of our business may expose the employee to moderate levels of physical and mental stress
- Ability to work in a collaborative team atmosphere
Physical Demands
The physical demands of this position are in most cases related to the loading and off-loading of tanker trailers. Lifting awkward hoses to waist level to connect and disconnect with camlocks, releasing and closing stubborn levers and pins are typical issues encountered. Climbing on top of tankers trailers to open the hatches for venting is another task required during the loading/off-loading process. Some confined space work may be required as well. Many times, these activities are performed in the heat of summer which adds UV exposure and dehydration as physical demands. Working outside in the elements is a big part of what we do, and every effort is made to mitigate all risks during inclement weather.
