Opportunities exist for ICU Trained and Experienced Registered Nurses based at Life Knysna Private Hospital, reporting to Unit Manager. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing holistic and optimal quality nursing care to critically ill patients in order to maximize a positive outcome for the customer in line with Company & Hospital strategic objectives.

Critical Outputs
To provide quality patient care by:
- Providing quality basic and specialized nursing care.
- Continual communication with the patient and family regarding the patient's condition.
- Administering medication in accordance with ethical and legal frameworks.
- Reviewing and complying with internal policies and protocols.
- Ensuring quality management systems and initiatives are conducted according to the unit specification.
- Advocating for the patient by motivating acuity to case management and notifying the doctor of any limitations.
Provide effective people management by:
- Interacting and communicating with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Providing training and development to ensure personal and professional growth.
- Ensuring the ICU team works according to the scope of practice to ensure the correct skills mix is utilized.
Provide effective cost management by:
- Managing all stock used according to unit-specific policies and protocols.
- Controlling and managing staff hours and leave in accordance with company policy.
Provide effective Infection Control and SHEQ by:
- Maintaining a safe and holistic patient environment to enforce infection control.
- Promoting a safe and healthy working environment by completing SHEQ alerts and incident reports to the SHEQ Coordinator.
Ensuring effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders by:
- Conducting in-service orientation on doctor-specific preferences.
- Executing doctors' requests and prescriptions after patient rounds.
- Assisting multi-disciplinary team members with the execution of their duties.
Ensuring the effective functioning of equipment and instrumentation by:
- Checking that equipment and instrumentation are in working condition daily and reporting any defaults to the Unit Manager and Clinical Engineer.
- Educating and supervising staff and doctors on the correct utilization of specialized equipment and instrumentation.
Ensuring effective record keeping by:
- Ensuring records are accurately completed and stored in accordance with legal and ethical requirements.
Requirements
- Diploma/Degree in Nursing with experience in Critical Care.
- Current registration with SANC.
- Clinical competence in Critical Care essential for all vacancies.
- Postgraduate diploma/degree in Critical Care is a requirement for Trained/Shift Leader positions.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Participative and collaborative with all team members to foster and develop a healthy and positive working environment that actively promotes a joint performance and value-based culture.
- Effective leadership skills including highly developed skills in communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation.
- Contemporary knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, industrial relations, standards, codes, ethics, and competency standards for Nurses in the ICU.
