About the Role
A leading meat production factory based in City Deep, Johannesburg South, is seeking a Production Manager to take charge of their production processes. This role is pivotal in ensuring that daily production targets are met while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality assurance.
Reporting directly to the Factory Manager, you'll be responsible for managing the production team, optimizing workflows, and driving continuous improvement in a high-volume, short shelf-life environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Hands-On Production Management: Oversee all aspects of meat primal production and ensure that KPI targets are achieved.
- Daily Operations Supervision: Manage the production line, ensuring smooth operation of people, product, and equipment.
- Inventory & Yield Control: Monitor carcass chiller inventory and ensure yields are maintained and improved where possible.
- Reporting & Compliance: Maintain accurate records and ensure adherence to internal and external quality systems.
- Budget & Cost Management: Plan and maintain running costs within budget, while optimizing production efficiency.
- Staff Supervision & Development: Schedule rosters and ensure compliance with legislative requirements. Monitor staff performance and conduct regular reviews, providing necessary interventions and training.
- Audit & Quality Readiness: Ensure that the department is audit-ready at all times by adhering to HACCP, food safety, and quality standards.
- Health & Safety Leadership: Instill a culture of safety and maintain a secure working environment for all employees.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in quality meetings and proactively plan improvements for the deboning facility and related processes.
- Customer Satisfaction: Monitor and exceed customer expectations in terms of product quality, service, and efficiency.
What You Need to Succeed
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in a similar position within the meat industry, handling high-volume, short shelf-life chilled products.
- Formal Qualification: Certificate or Diploma in Production Management or a related field.
- Essential Skills & Attributes: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent planning and organizational abilities to effectively monitor and control production processes. Ability to act decisively and solve both staff and equipment-related challenges. Strong analytical skills to ensure high standards of quality and performance. Capacity to grasp concepts quickly and implement solutions effectively. Attention to detail to ensure compliance with food safety and quality requirements. Ability to motivate and lead teams under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Logical, systematic approach to work and decision-making.
