Laboratory Analyst – Fmcg
Job summary
A leading laboratory services provider in Johannesburg seeks a qualified professional to conduct chemical and microbiological analyses and ensure compliance with food safety standards. The candidate should possess a National Diploma or Degree in a related field and have substantial laboratory experience, particularly in FMCG or food environments. The role involves operating laboratory instruments, performing quality control checks, and reporting test results. Opportunity for career growth within a dynamic environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum 24 years of laboratory experience in an FMCG, food, or beverage environment.
- Strong data analysis, reporting, and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of food safety, HACCP, GMP, and ISO 17025 requirements.
Responsibilities
- Conduct chemical, physical, and microbiological analyses of raw materials.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments.
- Perform routine quality control checks.
- Record, interpret, and report test results accurately.
- Ensure laboratory practices comply with ISO, HACCP, and GMP.
- Participate in audits and provide technical support.
- Investigate and report on product quality deviations.

- Conduct chemical, physical, and microbiological analyses of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments (e.g., HPLC, GC, spectrophotometers, pH meters, balances).
- Perform routine quality control checks in line with company and regulatory requirements.
- Record, interpret, and report test results accurately and timeously.
- Ensure laboratory practices comply with ISO, HACCP, GMP, and food safety standards.
- Participate in internal and external audits; provide technical support for compliance.
- Investigate and report on product quality deviations and non-conformances.
- Maintain laboratory stock, reagents, and consumables inventory.
- Uphold good laboratory practices (GLP), including safety, hygiene, and documentation protocols.
- National Diploma / Degree in Analytical Chemistry, Food Technology, Biotechnology, or related field.
- Minimum 24 years laboratory experience in an FMCG, food, or beverage environment.
- Knowledge of food safety, HACCP, GMP, and ISO 17025 requirements.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory instruments and testing methods.
- Strong data analysis, reporting, and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office; LIMS experience is advantageous.
