The client provides essential support services to the various companies within the larger group. In this role, you will serve as a key first point of contact for IT-related queries, delivering high-quality operational support and system administration. You will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of IT systems and hardware, enabling end-users to perform their roles effectively. Responsibilities include logging, prioritising, and resolving support requests using diagnostic tools, online resources, and reference to existing case histories. The role will also involve travel to branch offices and sites to provide hands-on, desktop-level support as needed.
Duties will include (but not limited to):
- Respond to support requests from colleagues via the ticketing system, in-person walk-ins, telephone, and email, ensuring a courteous and professional approach.
- Manage IT assets through the client's software, ensuring accurate tracking, reporting, and upkeep of equipment, including routine housekeeping in IT data centres, rooms, and storage areas.
- Record all relevant end-user information such as name, department, contact details, and issue description within the IT support ticketing system when required.
- Establish rapport with other staff to gather detailed information about reported issues.
- Prioritise and schedule support requests effectively, escalating complex issues to appropriate team members or external suppliers when necessary.
- Document the problem-solving process for each support request, capturing both successful and unsuccessful actions, through to final resolution in the IT ticketing system.
- Utilise diagnostic tools and structured troubleshooting methodologies to identify and resolve issues.
- Leverage online resources including software updates, drivers, forums, and FAQs to support resolution efforts.
- Gain and maintain knowledge of the software and hardware platforms used across the client.
- Perform hands-on technical support at any location, including software installation/upgrades, hardware setup, system configuration, peripheral setup, backup implementation, and phone system support.
- Conduct preventive maintenance activities, such as cleaning and inspecting workstations, printers, and other peripherals, as well as completing computer builds.
- Validate issue resolution by testing fixes and ensuring outcomes are logged appropriately.
- Review support ticket trends to identify recurring issues and implement preventive measures.
- Create user-friendly documentation, such as how-to guides and FAQs, and publish them on shared client platforms.
- Support general computer builds and network administration tasks, including Active Directory, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, ERP systems, firewalls, and routers.
- Deliver staff training both in-person and virtually, as required.
- Collaborate closely with IT Operations Managers to support the delivery of key projects and IT services.
- Administer Microsoft 365 tenant and on-premises Active Directory environments.
- Manage the Azure platform, including Intune and Endpoint Compliance.
- Configure and maintain virtual environments using VMware and Hyper-V.
- Implement system performance tuning based on monitoring data and analytics.
Essential Criteria:
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in an IT support role.
- Solid understanding of desktop, laptop, and server hardware components.
- Hands-on experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V.
- Proficient in implementing and managing backup solutions.
- Demonstrated experience supporting Microsoft 365, Azure, SharePoint, and related services.
- Practical knowledge of Microsoft Windows Active Directory administration.
- Experience working with Windows operating systems (both client and server editions).
- Skilled in network troubleshooting and the use of diagnostic tools.
- Familiarity with a variety of system diagnostic and support utilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal abilities, with a focus on building rapport, active listening, and effective questioning.
- Proficient in maintaining clear and comprehensive technical documentation.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel to various site locations across the UK and Ireland.
