Build A Rocket Boy is conducting a search for an experienced and highly qualified Senior Engineering Manager who will be accountable for shaping the organizational culture and values of the Code/Engineering department.
This is a key leadership position who will partner with the Senior Vice President of Engineering and their direct leadership team to establish and lead initiatives aimed at creating an efficient, sustainable and positive work environment centered around psychological safety and a growth mindset.
The ideal candidate is passionate about building long term successful interpersonal relationships through coaching, mentoring, active listening, servant leadership and continuous feedback, and has experience leading other people managers, aiding them in their personal development and professional growth.
As a member of the studio leadership team, the position is influential with a strong impact on recruiting, onboarding, retaining, and developing high performing teams. The role will be involved in the creation of processes, best practices, and organizational frameworks that foster continuous improvement, innovation, knowledge sharing and a sense of community.
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor Engineering Leaders, focusing on their motivation, performance, objectives, and career paths
- Maintain regular 1-on-1s with Engineering Leaders, discussing individual and team topics, and conducting performance evaluations
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the engineering team
- Ensure effective communication across all levels of the engineering organization
- Foster an inclusive, innovative, and high-performance environment in line with studio culture and values
- Drive organizational change and cultivate a collaborative engineering culture in an agile environment
- Implement learning and development programs, and maintain a focus on psychological safety and a growth mindset
- Collaborate with cross-functional leads on initiatives impacting team wellbeing and innovation
- Act as a strategic advisor to the technical leadership, assisting in decision-making and priority setting
- Prepare high-level engineering documentation and policies, and provide feedback on engineering workflows
- Lead weekly engineering meetings and participate in executive meetings as needed
- Represent Engineering in key collaborations with other parties such as Recruitment, HR, Learning & Development
Requirements
- Proven experience in managing and developing both individual contributors and leaders in a multicultural environment
- Strong emphasis on coaching, mentoring, and creating structured career development plans
- Excellent communication skills, with an ability to handle sensitive issues professionally
- Passion for building a great culture and motivating engineers to excel
- Experience in building empathetic, people-first environments and high-performing teams in a modern agile setting
