Let’s make Kamloops shine! Join our team today.Position OverviewThe City of Kamloops has a permanent, full-time opportunity for a highly skilled Engineering Utilities Technician I. This position’s responsibilities include technical analysis of utility records and SCADA information, ongoing analysis of utility utilization levels, data preparation, model development, high-level design, cost estimating and infrastructure planning. Engineers-In-Training (EITs) registered with EGBC (or similar) are encouraged to apply and will be considered to have met educational and professional designation requirements.

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:
- Completion of a two-year diploma in Engineering Technology or Engineering Design and Drafting Technology or related field.
- Ability to obtain certification as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) with ASTTBC within 18 months.
- Minimum two years' related experience in municipal government and/or private consulting.
- Proficient in intermediate Word, intermediate Excel, and intermediate PowerPoint as demonstrated through testing (70% pass rate required).
- Valid BC Driver's Licence - Class 5.
** Please note, Registration as EIT with EGBC would be considered an equivalent and would satisfy qualifications 1 through 3.
Please note, our preference will be to hire a fully qualified Engineering Utilities Technician I; however, if there are no qualified applicants, we may hire an Engineering Utilities Technician - Training Opportunity.
The successful candidate for the Engineering Utilities Technician - Training Opportunity must have the following qualifications:
- Completion of a two-year diploma in Engineering Technology or Engineering Design and Drafting Technology or related field.
- Ability to obtain certification as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) with ASTTBC within 18 months.
- Minimum one-year related experience in municipal government and/or private consulting.
- Proficient in intermediate Word, intermediate Excel, and intermediate PowerPoint as demonstrated through testing (70% pass rate required).
- Valid BC Driver's Licence - Class 5.
For new hires, and for those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check. A comprehensive benefits package is included with this position. This is a CUPE local 900 position. Please note that this position will be open until filled. Awarding of Training Opportunity:To be successful for this training opportunity, senior applicants must meet the above requirements. Applicants are able to participate in a maximum of three training opportunities within the Department.
On-the-Job Experience and Training:The most senior qualified candidate for this opportunity will be gaining experience towards becoming a fully qualified Engineering Utilities Technician I. The exact length of the training opportunity may vary based on the previous education and experience of the successful candidate and the length of the position but will be a maximum of 2 years.
Pay Rate:The successful applicant for this training opportunity will receive the pay rate of Pay Grade 10 (inside), $38.451 per hour to start. After successful completion of the Training Opportunity term and being deemed fully qualified, the incumbent will move to a Pay Grade 11 (inside) as a fully qualified Engineering Utilities Technician I.
Time Commitment to the Position:The successful candidate will be required to remain in the Engineering Utilities Technician I position for a minimum of the amount of time it took the candidate to become fully qualified.
