Position: Automotive Service Technician Foundation Instructor

FTE: 1.0

Grade: Grade 12 and Graduated Students

Status: Temporary

Start Date: ASAP to June 30, 2025

This teaching assignment may involve evening hours. Some weekend hours may be required where appropriate. Offsite travel will be required.

Qualifications:

• A valid B.C Teaching Certificate or ability to meet the requirement of the Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch
• Red Seal qualifications as an Automotive Service Technician
• A minimum of 5 years experience as an Automotive Service Technician
• Recent successful experience as an instructor working with youth and adults.
• Recent successful experience placing students into industry related work experience/job placement.
• Learning Assistance training or experience is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a self-paced, multi-disciplined environment.
• Knowledge of SkilledTradesBC Automotive Service Technology Foundation Curriculum and assessment
• Knowledge of Automotive Service Technician industry related resources and community resources
• Possess current knowledge and involvement with Automotive Service Technician industry trends.
• Knowledge of WorksafeBC policy, practices and procedures
• Knowledge of best business practice
• Knowledge of computer-based learning and support materials (ex: Electrude)
• Certified in Tire Industry Association basic 200 course.
• Knowledge of on-line learning platforms (ex: Zoom, MS Teams, Scholantis)

General Duties:

• To provide classroom instruction of SkilledTradesBC Automotive Service Technician Foundation curriculum that is reflective of industry competencies to students registered in a full-time Automotive Service Technician Foundation trade certification program.
• Implement instruction based on SkilledTradesBC course outlines and guidelines and engage in the development of related curriculum and course work.
• To facilitate student success and course/program completion
• To conduct regular on-going assessment of student progress leading to a formal evaluation/final letter grade in accordance with Ministry of Education and SkilledTradesBC program standards
• To provide regular on-going reporting of student attendance
• To serve as the Teacher Advisor for students in the assigned program, and oversee program Work Study at various locations throughout the Lower Mainland
• To identify suitable Work Study placements and follow School District Work Study guidelines and practices for Work Study, including the completion of Work Site Analysis and all required paperwork.
• To teach employability skills as they relate to the Automotive Service industry.
• To arrange for formal industry related testing as appropriate and as per SkilledTradesBC requirements
• To assist students outside one’s teaching assignment as requested and where appropriate.
• To liaise with the SkilledTradesBC as needed and required
• To liaise with industry contacts at both the regional and provincial levels
• To assist students in finding industry related work experience and job placements.

The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $57,972-$106,217, with placement on the range based on length of service, FTE and qualifications in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
