OUR CLIENT
An opportunity exists in our client’s Calgary office for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer (EITs will also be considered) to join a leading firm across Western Canada. This company has a well-established presence and a strong portfolio of work across a variety of sectors.
THE ROLE
In this role, you will be responsible for working through all phases of the mechanical engineering on a variety of building projects ranging in size and complexity, and be involved in liaising with clients and external stakeholders. This role will start as or develop into a Project Lead type of responsibility.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate with other disciplines internally as well as externally with consultants and architects.
- Ensure professional quality services in all facets of work.
- Provide quality and cost control during the design and construction process.
- Work with the project team to ensure technical accuracy of project deliverables.
- Manage project activities throughout lifecycle, including the allocation of adequate resources, documentation, and other factors necessary for success.
- Prepare and review specifications and concept reports.
- Maintain project schedules and project cost summaries to track work progress, budget status and manpower resource utilization.
- Work with the field review team during the construction phase and ensure ASHRAE compliance and LEED where applicable.
- Contribute to the design of building HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems.
- Coordinate and be responsible for mechanical engineering designs, drawings, and specifications.
- Collaborate with architects and project teams to ensure design requirements are met and to solve design problems and technical issues.
- Nurture and maintain strong client relationships in and for execution of projects.
- Conduct peer reviews of engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications within the mechanical team.
WHAT’S REQUIRED- Registered EIT or Engineer with APEGA.
- 4+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering with good knowledge and hands-on experience working with Canadian building codes.
- Experience working with mechanical systems of commercial, institutional, or multi-family buildings is essential (oil and gas or industrial buildings will not be considered).
- Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
- Experience working with business development activities or a strong interest in doing this.
- High energy and dynamic individual.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Knowledge of and experience with high performance and sustainable building practices an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of national and provincial building codes and standards.
- Exposure to BIM and Revit will be an asset, so as to be able to review drawings.
- Good organization, coordination, and project management skills to maintain project schedules and budgets.
- Good verbal communication and soft skills - able to work effectively with clients, teams, and consultants.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects simultaneously.
