Job Description:
To design electronic hardware and ensure that it complies with specifications. Responsible for the research, development, and validation of electronic components and systems within the product development cycle. This role involves conducting market research, feasibility studies, and concept simulations, as well as overseeing the design, fabrication, and testing of printed circuit boards (PCBs). The Electronics Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers to ensure the successful integration and approval of electronic products.
- Design and develop components such as circuit boards and other devices.
- Work closely with software engineers to create new components, conduct tests on prototypes, and oversee the manufacturing process of a variety of hardware components.
- Conduct market research (specific product features, technology, and design in existence), data collection, analysis of benchmark data, and study of Things Gone Right / Things Gone Wrong Reports.
- Thoroughly check materials, procedures, and mechanical or electrical systems to ensure high-quality, functional products.
- Run tests on various components and features to identify and fix technical issues.
- Evaluate a project's firmware needs, designing a firmware solution to meet project needs, develop and implement new firmware, debug firmware, evaluate performance, and troubleshoot as needed.
- Incorporate client feedback into firmware revisions.
- Design and execute test plans for embedded software with the goal of automating the tests.
- Support and maintain in-house technology equipment, installing, configuring, diagnosing, repairing, and upgrading all hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal performance.
- Conduct feasibility studies on design briefs and PCB concept feasibility.
- Prepare concept simulations and BOM creation.
- Conduct reviews of concept simulations along with the Mechanical Engineering team.
- Finalize hardware and software design and supplier for hardware and software development along with the purchase team.
- Review and finalize PCB (Gerber) with a multi-disciplinary team (Design, Engineering, Quality, SCM, etc.).
- Release PCB (Gerber) for vendor fabrication.
- Review and approve vendor fabrication procedures and test report templates submitted by vendors along with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Responsible for PCB fabrication and assembly, finalizing board bring-up, reviewing and approving results of PCB design modifications, and completing system integration testing.
- If tests pass, submit product sample simulation modeling for customer review.
- Review and approve Vendor T0 (Trial Trial 0) PCB fabrication and define and conduct testing for T0 final product.
- Responsible for functional and system integration testing of T0 PCB fabrication and assembly.
- Submit samples for Quality Team reviews and approval and ensure customer approval is received.
- Prepare feedback reports.
Desired Candidate Profile:
- Minimum of 10 years of hardware design, system/product level experience in the automotive industry.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with market research and feasibility studies.
- Proficiency in simulation and modeling software for electronic components.
- Experience in automotive electronics hardware design, schematic capture, generation of design files, BOMs, troubleshooting, and release.
- Understanding of wire harness.
- Experience in hardware/product development, integration, testing, compliance & support. Basic knowledge of NPI/NPD is preferred.
- Instrument knowledge - CROs, Logic Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzer, CMW500, LCRQ meter, etc.
- Design analysis for Thermal, EMI/EMC.
- Must be proficient in Altium, Cadence, Allegro, or other tools.
