Key Purpose of Role - Construction Director
To manage and direct the construction department to provide a quality product efficiently, safely, and professionally; within set budgets and agreed timescales, ensuring highest levels of customer satisfaction.
To be responsible for: Contract Managers, Site Managers, Assistant Site Managers, Trainee Assistant Site Managers, site personnel (via Site Managers).
To ensure the construction department adheres to the company’s policies on Health and Safety, ensuring requirements of Health and Safety legislation are met and safe working practices are actively encouraged.
To work in collaboration with other departments, particularly the sales department, to review and discuss a range of construction issues from potential sites through to existing developments.
Key Duties / Responsibilities - Construction Director
Management of the Company
Work effectively as part of the senior management team and take a “whole company” perspective to managing issues. The Construction Director has a corporate responsibility for the management of the company; including the general running of the company, setting budgets, minimising risks, maximising opportunities, achieving the company’s targets, and positively influencing the progression and growth of the company.
Management of the Department
Responsible for effectively managing the construction function to ensure best practices are followed, costs are controlled, and the department maximises revenue generation and contributes to the company’s operating profit.
Project Planning
In conjunction with the Managing Director, agree the direction of build and locations for compounds and storage. Identify critical path issues and put plans in place to meet key dates. Identify a schedule of information required to meet the build programme and circulate as necessary.
Build Programme
In conjunction with the Managing Director, produce build programmes and monitor adherence to programmes. Collaborate with the Commercial Director to appoint suitable sub-contractors and suppliers.
Build Quality
Monitor and inspect developments regularly to ensure that all quality control procedures are adhered to. Visit each site at least once a month.
Build Cost
In collaboration with the Commercial Director, ensure site and build costs are controlled within budget. Attend all cost value comparison meetings.
Staffing
Ensure the right quality and calibre of staff are recruited. Lead, motivate, and performance manage staff to achieve best performance to meet the company’s objectives.
Health & Safety
Comply with responsibilities in the company Health & Safety Policy to ensure a safe working environment. Review specific training needs with the Health & Safety Manager.
Customer Satisfaction
Monitor and continually review the quality being produced to ensure that the highest standards are achieved. Collaborate with sales and technical colleagues.
Meetings
Attend weekly Build and Sales meetings and keep the management team informed of site issues and progress. Prepare papers for inclusion in the board pack.
Working Relationships
Effective working relationships are essential. Focus on internal colleagues and external contractors, suppliers, and inspectors.

Qualifications
Building & Management Qualifications relevant to the role (desirable).
Experience
Proven track record delivering high value energy projects on time and to budget. Substantial Contract negotiation/delivery experience.
Key knowledge and skills
Strong communication skills. Leadership skills and an ability to motivate your team. Excellent planning skills. Strong attention to detail.
Personal attributes
A high degree of self-motivation, resilience, and drive. An ability to make decisions under pressure. Commercial awareness.
