Role Overview
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Buyer to join our team, specialising in the procurement of handcrafted products and the development of strong partnerships with skilled makers and artisans. The ideal candidate will have a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and heritage techniques, combined with strong commercial acumen and expertise in stock order management. This role requires a proactive individual who can balance creativity with data-driven decision-making, ensuring ABASK’s collection remains unique, high-quality, and commercially successful. Additionally, the Buyer will play a key role in own-brand development, working closely with global makers to create exclusive product ranges for ABASK.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Maker Sourcing
- Identify, source, and onboard new makers, artisans, and independent brands that align with ABASK’s ethos of craftsmanship and quality.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing makers, ensuring a sustainable and collaborative partnership.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and exclusivity agreements with makers and suppliers.
- Conduct market research to identify emerging trends in artisanal homeware and craft-based products.
- Travel as required to source new talent, attend trade shows, and visit workshops and studios to evaluate craftsmanship standards.
- Secure global makers to develop exclusive products for ABASK, evolving the product offering with unique, high-quality designs.
Buying & Product Selection
- Curate a product selection that reflects ABASK’s brand identity and appeals to our discerning clientele.
- Work closely with the merchandising, trade and creative teams to ensure an optimal mix of products across categories.
- Develop seasonal buying strategies that align with sales forecasts and inventory needs.
- Ensure consistency in quality and authenticity of handmade products, working closely with makers to refine designs where needed.
- Lead initiatives for own-brand development, collaborating with artisans to produce signature ABASK collections.
- Focus on key areas such as Closet, Home Furnishings, Games, Study, Bathroom, and contribute to the ever-growing rooms within ABASK’s offering.
Stock Order & Inventory Management
- Manage the end-to-end stock order process, from initial purchase orders to final delivery.
- Monitor stock levels, ensuring replenishment orders are placed in a timely manner to maintain optimal inventory levels, protecting the continuity of the stock and working within the parameters of the WSSI.
- Collaborate with supply chain and logistics teams to ensure smooth stock movement and resolve any order discrepancies.
- Track sales performance and adjust future orders to optimize profitability and reduce excess inventory.
- Work with finance teams to manage budgets, ensuring spend aligns with commercial goals.
Content & Knowledge Sharing
- Collaborate with marketing and editorial teams to develop compelling content around makers, craftsmanship techniques, and product stories.
- Maintain a structured content calendar to align product launches, marketing campaigns, and seasonal trends.
- Work proactively with internal teams to ensure all maker insights, production timelines, and exclusive collaborations are communicated effectively.
- Provide training and insights to wider teams, ensuring a deep understanding of ABASK’s collections and artisan partnerships.
- Stay ahead of industry trends, consumer behaviour, and competitive landscape to inform product and content strategies.
Analysis & Reporting
- Analyse sales data and customer insights to make informed buying decisions for continuity, one-of-a-kind and newness.
- Monitor supplier performance and product sell-through rates, making recommendations for improvements where necessary.
- Prepare regular reports on category performance, trends, and future opportunities.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Buyer, ideally within the luxury, homeware, or artisanal/craft sector.
- Strong knowledge of handmade and craft-based production techniques, with a passion for supporting artisans and small-batch makers.
- Exceptional negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Strong commercial awareness with an analytical mindset to drive sales and profitability.
- Experience in inventory planning, stock management, and forecasting.
- Ability to balance creativity with data-driven decision-making.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Canva and experience with buying/planning software.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
