Communications networks and digital infrastructures are the backbone of the digital transformation of our industry and society. Indeed, digital infrastructures are present in all applicative areas of industry; from autonomous cars and smart cities to the entertainment sector, including health, space, defense and energy management. As such, the telecommunications sector constitutes a key area of national and European sovereignty. However, the digital infrastructure sector must face several challenges: i) initial and apprenticeship training capacities are insufficient, ii) continuing education must be intensified to enable adaptation to rapid technological developments, iii) the training of high-profile scientists and technicians must make it possible to anticipate the design and deployment of future networks, in order to ensure French sovereignty in a key area, iv) the deployment of these technologies in private networks (particularly in vitally important organizations) will increase the need for trained resources to maintain these networks in operational conditions, v) the telecommunications training offer must increase its visibility in order to have a significant impact on the sector, in particular by integrating energy constraints as a design criterion. Indeed, communication networks and digital infrastructures can help to meet certain challenges related to climate change, such as road traffic regulation for example, but must also question the value chain in a context of digital sobriety. The Intelligent, Secure, Sovereign and Sustainable Networks (RIS3) project aims to maintain a very high level of expertise in the design of future networks and disruptive communications techniques in order to maintain significant know-how in France in this key sector.
Teaching
The person recruited will mainly work in the E&T department, but also in apprenticeship training in Electronics – Embedded Systems and Telecommunications (E-SET) as well as in the preparatory classes. He or she may also work in the Photonics Master's degree by proposing contents on quantum information. The person recruited will be responsible for participating in the actions of the RIS3 project, including the setting up of training courses in the RIS3 graduate school as well as in the RIS3 continuing education courses. She or he will also be involved in monitoring E-SET apprentices with INSA's partner companies. The teaching duty will include courses, practical works (TP) and exercise sessions (TD) as well as digital contents on methods and algorithms for processing quantum information. The teaching duty is reduced at 48 HTD the first year, increases at 96 HTD the second year to reach a full service of 192 HTD the third year.
Research
Team: SIGNAL (SIGnal processing and ALgorithms)
IETR is a public research laboratory specializing in the field of electronics and digital technologies. Structured into 13 thematic research teams, the work carried out addresses multiple scientific challenges mainly linked to the digital transformation of society, but also to its transitions in terms of environment, ecology, energy and health.
The SIGNAL team conducts research in multidimensional signal processing for communications, in information theory and machine learning for communications. These different approaches are developed to ensure great flexibility and high communication efficiency from the point of view of throughput, connectivity, responsiveness, quality of service, security, robustness, exploitation of available resources, mobility or availability of services.
The person recruited will be involved in RIS3 project, as well as in continuing education and apprenticeships related to the project. In particular, he or she will participate in the recruitment of candidates for training, as well as in actions to promote the project. Administrative and educational responsibilities will be taken on gradually and in consultation with the project leader.
The associate professor will play a central role in the development of the “quantum information processing” activity, which is currently not included in the activities of the SIGNAL team. The research axis of the recruited EC may focus on quantum information theory, quantum processing algorithms, or on quantum error-correcting codes. For instance, he or she may develop the fundamental energy limits of a communication by exploring and extending Landaeur’s principle to the more sophisticated information processing needs required in a transmission. The concept of reversible calculation will be explored and extended to a communication chain in order to propose algorithms and architectures that are disruptive in their energy consumption.
The expected skills are among the following:
Know-how to be:
The candidate must demonstrate dynamism, teaching and communication skills, the ability to adapt to a multi-partner context, autonomy, a sense of initiative, the ability to listen, discretion and respect for confidentiality, teamwork, and be able to make suggestions.
Specific Requirements:
Not have been the subject of convictions entered in bulletin no. 2 of the criminal record, incompatible with the exercise of the functions.
Hold a BAC + 8 level diploma or be about to defend his thesis.
Selection process
How to apply:
- Cover letter and detailed CV (with full list of publications).
- File describing teaching experience, current research areas as well as a research and teaching project for integration into the RIS3 project.
- Copy of the highest degree (if doctorate: copy of the minutes and procés-verbal of the defense).
- Certificate of registration for thesis and certificate from the doctoral school of commitment to defend within 2 months if doctorate in progress.
Applications must be sent by e-mail only to recrutement@insa-rennes.fr before April 30, 2025 at midnight. Interviews will take place in June 2025.
