The Innovation, Privacy, and Policy (IPP) Division in Technology and Innovation oversees the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy, protects personal information, guides the ethical use of data, and manages the Ministry’s policy and legislative coordination and mission planning. We advance strategies and policies for data delivery, content management, and privacy-related programs as well as ensuring responsible governance for Alberta Innovates and the Alberta Enterprise Corporation. Within the IPP Division, the Innovation Ecosystem Branch (IEB) advances Alberta's innovation agenda by setting direction for technology and innovation matters for government, its agencies, industry and academia; investing in research and innovation to build talent, solutions and capacity; and providing direction, oversight and evaluation of Alberta Innovates and the Alberta Enterprise Corporation to ensure their investments enhance growth of the tech and innovation sector. The actions of the Branch align with government priorities such as those identified in the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy (ATIS) and are intended to attract talent and expertise, support the next generation of innovators, and attract impactful innovation investments to help diversify the economy and lead to economic and social benefit for all Albertans. The Innovation Discovery and Collaborations Programs Unit builds, supports, and promotes research and innovation capacity in Alberta's businesses, entrepreneurs and post-secondary institutions by ensuring the province has world leading talent and state of the art facilities to drive growth and attract investment. This unit has the responsibility to lead and manage numerous complex programs and investments to support enhanced research and innovation under Alberta's key sectors, as well as regional economic development.

Role Responsibilities

The Innovation Ecosystem Branch is looking for a Manager of Collaboration Initiatives. This position reports directly to the Director of Innovation Discovery and Collaborations.

The Responsibilities Of This Role Include

• Overseeing targeted research and innovation programs, such as the Major Innovation Fund, the Innovation Catalyst Grant, and other programs/initiatives, delivered by Alberta's post-secondary institutions and other innovation system partners.
• Providing leadership and direction to team responsible for delivering programs to enhance Alberta's innovation system.
• Implementing provincial innovation system strategies in consultation with and communicated to the government innovation agencies and other research and innovation stakeholders.
• Contributing to the development of research and innovation policy products within the department.
• Collaborating with research and innovation system stakeholders to increase the capacity for integrated strategy implementation within the ministry.
• Supporting Executive and Senior management of the division in accomplishing the goals of the branch and division.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• A university degree in Business, Public Administration, Science, or related field, plus five (5) years of related experience in program delivery, stakeholder relations or Innovation / Research Planning environment is required.
• Experience with developing or providing input into reports (e.g., summary reports, briefing notes, annual reports, guidelines etc.).
  
  

Equivalencies

• A related two-year diploma from a recognized postsecondary institution and minimum of seven (7) years related experience; or
• A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and minimum of eight (8) years related experience; or
• Nine (9) years related experience.
  
  

Assets

• Content knowledge of research and related funding at the provincial and federal levels.
• Knowledge of grant funding programs.
• Understanding of legislation, regulations, and impacts on policy frameworks.
• Experience conducting data or trend analysis.
  
  

Notes

Term of Employment: Permanent, Full-time position

Hours of Work: 7.25 hours daily / 36.25 weekly – Monday to Friday

Location: Edmonton

This position is eligible for hybrid work (3 days a week in office and 2 days a week from home).
