Position Summary

Full-Time Administrative, replacement position

Reporting directly to the Director, the Training Specialist is accountable for the development, implementation and continuous quality improvement across a range of education workforce training and research projects supporting the activities of the Centre for Health Care Research & Innovation. The Training Specialist adds value to the centre by contributing to research projects, based on subject matter expertise in the field of nursing.

The Training Specialist brings experience and credentials as a Registered Nurse in Ontario and is prepared with strong capabilities in the areas of clinical practice, research, education and leadership. In addition to robust industry experience, the Training Specialist will bring lived experience supporting people living with dementia and their family and friend care partners. The Training Specialist displays creativity and initiative to optimize training and development, to meet the changing needs of the workforce, advancing the college’s strategic expectations for student success, academic and research leadership, operational effectiveness.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with three days on-site at the Doon campus located at 299 Doon Valley Dr. in Kitchener, ON and two days remote. Work arrangement and shift are subject to change.

Responsibilities

1. Contribute to and carry out a multi-year operational plan for workforce training and research projects
2. Actively review trends, opportunities, and industry needs relevant to priority areas for research and workforce training opportunities
3. Guide workforce training curriculum design, development, and delivery approaches to optimize professional learning
4. Engage with internal and external stakeholders to achieve industry, department, school, and college expectations
5. Guide subject matter experts to ensure that product delivery strategies demonstrate leading practices for adult learning and continuing education
6. Plan and coordinate workforce training development projects to ensure completion of deliverables per stated timelines
7. Provide guidance on dementia care best practices
8. Work closely with Conestoga’s Online Learning Centre and external developers of high-quality interactive online learning products (i.e., D2L, etc.)
9. Consult with Conestoga’s Curriculum Consultants to ensure design integrity
10. Work closely with the Copyright Coordinator and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) guidelines to ensure curriculum meets standards
11. Facilitate workshops for service delivery organizations
12. Contribute to the marketing and social media strategy of the Centre for Health Care Research & Innovation
13. Support training deliveries of health-care programming
14. Establish and maintain a network of contacts to position the Centre for Health Care Research & Innovation for excellence and impact in focused health care
15. Bring forward trends, opportunities, and industry needs relevant to research areas
16. Present opportunities for new services and applied research and innovation activities and partnerships to the Director
17. Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of funding opportunities, and tracking of deliverables, processes, and procedures to maximize the relationship with the college and its research partners
18. Coordinate health-care-focused research projects, including tracking of deliverables, contribution to budgets, and reporting
19. Develop, maintain, and deliver information materials on Applied Research projects and corporate partnerships to academic leaders, faculty, and researchers

1. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BScN) required; master’s degree in health care or a related field of study is required
2. Current Registered Nurse (RN) in the province of Ontario, entitled to practice with no restrictions is required
3. Minimum five years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a health care setting or a related industry is required, experience working in post-secondary education or in a managerial role is an asset
4. Experience developing and delivering training and curriculum is required
5. Demonstrated experience supporting people living with dementia and their family and friend caregivers
6. Professional certification and work experience in health sciences is an asset
7. Experience in a project-based role with a demonstrated track record supporting and managing projects, familiarity with workforce training, research funding, and building knowledge dissemination products
8. Experience working with industry and/or institutional partnerships
9. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to build strong formal and informal professional relationships
10. Ability to develop and maintain a network of research and project-related contacts
11. Organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively while working within timelines
12. Ability to act strategically to assess and mitigate risk and to resolve complex problems with good judgement and diplomacy
