The wage for this position is Level VI, Step 1 ($31.13/hour) for external candidates and at a Step related to years of service at KEYS for internal candidates, for 35 hours/week. Working out of KEYS’ Gananoque office, with travel to surrounding locations, the Business Engagement Consultant has a vital role within KEYS’ Employer Services, whose primary purpose is to outreach, engage and build trusting relationships with local businesses. This role and the Employer Services team form an integral part of the economic development ecosystem in our communities. The Business Engagement Consultant will be among the first points of contact for employers to support them with their recruitment needs thereby increasing job opportunities for program participants.
The position will promote the full suite of KEYS’ Employer Services and will collaborate with Employer Services staff across departments and teams. The Consultant will cultivate new employer contacts while maintaining positive relationships with existing employer partners and focus on outreach to the local business community to increase job opportunities for KEYS’ clients. This position will also be responsible for organizing and hosting job fairs, employer events and worksite tours, and experiential learning activities.
The work will ebb and flow with this position and there will be an expectation that the Business Engagement Consultant will at times carry a caseload of clients requiring placement support. The Consultant will also support and coordinate activities with other members of the Employer Services Team. Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Business Engagement Consultant will meet all activities and targets of the designated program area(s).
Competencies Required
a. Thorough knowledge of funding parameters, eligibility criteria for all KEYS programs, reporting guidelines and file maintenance protocols.
b. Ability to develop trust relationships with members of the business community, while supporting job seekers in a supportive, solution‐focused manner.
c. Understands the HR needs of SMEs to effectively support these businesses to find, to recruit and to retain the talent they need to sustain and grow their business.
d. Knowledge and understanding of current labour market trends, employment support services as they relate to workforce development, and vocational training opportunities.
e. Understands the challenges facing the unemployed, and those challenges specific to job seekers who are furthest from the labour market.
f. Understands the unique needs of rural based businesses and perform strong needs assessments.
g. Ability to advocate to employers, on behalf of individuals requiring assistance with job search and maintenance: strong negotiation skills.
h. Ability to coordinate events, information sessions and workshops in a positive and dynamic manner both in person and using virtual platforms.
i. Ability to deal with sensitive issues with discretion and to respond positively to challenges; demonstrated good judgement and a clear understanding of appropriate service boundaries.
j. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively within a cross-cultural team environment.
k. Ability to work with limited supervision and considerable self-direction.
l. Comfort working autonomously in off-site locations and promoting KEYS’ programs and services in those communities.
m. Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing and appropriate professional development.
n. Remains current with technology related to position and possesses adequate computer skills.
o. Commitment to established agency performance standards which includes productivity, personal responsibility, customer centred service, collaborative team performance, entrepreneurial attitude and maintaining a high level of professionalism.
Qualifications
a. Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Business, Marketing, Project Management, Event Planning, Human Resource Management, or another related field. An equivalent combination of experience and education will also be considered.
b. Prior marketing, business development or project management experience is a definite asset.
c. Possession of Canadian Career Development Practitioner certification or working toward achievement of certification an asset.
d. Proficiency in English is a requirement. Fluency in French and/or a third language is a valued asset.
e. Driver’s license, insurance and a reliable vehicle, or other way of traveling throughout rural and urban catchment areas on a regular basis, is a requirement of the position.

c. Office setting in Gananoque with frequent travel to off-site locations within KEYS catchments.
d. Professional appearance is required, casual business attire.
e. 35 hours per week with occasional early morning, weekend, or evening activities.
