GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc. is growing and has a new career opportunity for an experienced Technical Product Owner who is passionate about software product development that meets our customers' needs.
As a Technical Product Owner, you are responsible for bridging the gap between business objectives and technical execution for embedded systems, while ensuring our products meet customer needs and align with the product roadmap. You’ll collaborate closely with key stakeholders, product management, and the development team. You will distill product requirements and bug reports into stories in a prioritized backlog for execution by development teams.
Responsibilities
- Product Ownership and communication
- Build a comprehensive understanding of the current product and its product roadmap.
- Work with cross-functional teams and various stakeholders, including analytics, design/user experience, hardware engineering, and sonar operations experts to inform the product features and prioritization.
- Technical Understanding
- Utilize a strong understanding of embedded systems, including hardware-software interaction, real-time operating systems, data flows and system architecture, to inform product decisions.
- Backlog Management
- Create, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog to ensure your team is always working on the highest priority tasks, balancing the development of new features, iterations, bug fixes, and other internal tasks.
- Create clear, fully scoped stories and train the development team on best practices for story definition and pointing.
- Ensure that the backlog is visible, transparent, and understood by the development team.
- Task Definition
- Develop detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, and product requirements.
- Collaborate with the development team to refine and clarify requirements.
- Sprint Planning and Review
- Participate in sprint planning meetings to help the team understand the priorities and scope of work.
- Participate in sprint reviews, reminding all parties of the requirements being implemented and accepting stakeholder feedback to inform sprint planning.
- Applied Agile Methodology
- Mentor teams on Agile values, principles, practices, and tools.
- Support continuous improvement of GeoSpectrum’s Agile processes.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in organizational occupational health and safety education, prevention, promotion, and reporting.
- Proactively participate in performance reviews, professional development and required company training.
Qualifications
- A degree/diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with Agile methodologies, including SCRUM and are a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM).
- At least 5 years of experience building systems as a Product Owner and/or Software Developer in an engineering environment.
- Proficient in Agile project management tools such as JIRA and/or Confluence.
- Strong technical background in embedded systems, including knowledge of microcontrollers, firmware, and hardware-software integration.
- Preferred working in Linux / Unix operating systems.
- Preferred experience in C or C++.
- Preferred experience with applied algorithm development, physics, and/or real-time processes.
Security Requirements
- Candidates must be able to demonstrate they are eligible to apply for and maintain the Canadian Controlled Goods and Canadian Government Security Clearances. Specifically, candidates may be asked to show proof of living in Canada for the past five consecutive years and provide a criminal record check.
