The Associate Scientist, Target Manufacturing is responsible for manufacturing solid targets used in the production of high-value radioisotopes on ARTMS’ QUANTM Irradiation System installed on medical cyclotrons across the globe. Reporting to the Manager, Target Manufacturing, the laboratory technician is part of a team designing, specifying, and manufacturing innovative products for the nuclear medicine field. The primary focus of the laboratory technician will be to follow strict SOPs and lead the cGMP manufacturing of cyclotron solid targets. The successful candidate will work closely with our operations, engineering, and quality departments to optimize processes while delivering high-quality products. Experience with inorganic chemistry such as hydro- and pyrometallurgy, knowledge of and/or experience with radioisotope production, radiochemical separation processes, and GMP manufacturing is desired.
Key Accountabilities
- Manufacture cyclotron targets according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and checklists
- Perform chemical manipulations with inorganic chemicals
- Maintain organized and meticulous documentation of laboratory and production work
- Carry out preventative maintenance and routine calibrations of manufacturing equipment
- Assist with writing and editing SOPs, checklists, and batch records
- Maintain laboratory inventories to ensure critical supplies remain in stock
- Assist in after-sales support and service
- As part of the manufacturing team, work towards continuously improving the manufacturing programs to meet product orders
- Actively engage in discussions regarding the implementation of innovative products
- Work within guidelines to ensure regulatory requirements such as cGMP, ISO, nuclear safety, and transportation and dangerous goods requirements are met
- Assist in the development and continual improvement of QC, QA, and QMS
- Assist with internal & external compliance audits
- Anticipate and rectify problems with procedures, methods, techniques, or production equipment by applying theoretical and practical knowledge
- Demonstrate and promote safe work habits and enforce a clean and organized working environment
- Actively participate in deviation and non-conformance investigations and follow through on corrective actions.
- The position may require the incumbent to be trained as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). Previous experience as a Nuclear Energy Worker is an asset.
Education And Experience- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Science or related technology program required
- Minimum 1-3 years of relevant laboratory work experience, inorganic chemistry or material science preferred
- Familiarity with working in a regulated environment
- Ability to maintain accuracy and quality while working independently
- Good hand-eye coordination when handling samples and lab equipment
- Familiarity with working in ISO9001 or GMP environments
- Familiarity with a variety of laboratory equipment
- Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate, and timely manner
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated creativity in solving routine problems
- Works well under pressure
- Ability to work as a team member, socialize ideas, and build successful working relationships

- Extended hours, shift, and weekend work may be required based on the needs of the business.
