On behalf of our Public Sector Client, Ignite Technical Resources is recruiting for a Software Application Designer to join our Client's team on a contract basis. This role is 100% remote, and the Client is based in Victoria, BC.

Summary of the Role
The successful candidate will contribute to a critical project modernizing systems. They will design, develop, and test applications to replace aging systems and support data collection and distribution in a microservices-based environment. This role involves collaboration with stakeholders to deliver solutions aligned with provincial government standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with the client to design, develop, and test applications that replace the TRAX and SLD systems and build a new Education Data Exchange (EDX).
2. Migrate existing functionality from the OpenVMS platform to modern solutions using the OpenShift platform.
3. Implement a microservices and API-first approach for system integration and modernization.
4. Translate software specifications into code and ensure thorough documentation of technical work.
5. Develop and maintain systems across web, middle, and database tiers, leveraging the specified technology stack.

Core Requirements:

1. Minimum 2 years of experience within the IT sector.
2. Demonstrated experience working with BC Government core policy, compliance, and infrastructure hosting.
3. Proficiency in the following technology stack:
   • Web Tier: SiteMinder, SAML, OpenID Connect, OAuth2, JavaScript (and frameworks), Spring, HTML5/CSS3, Git.
   • Middle Tier: Java/J2EE, Hibernate, PrimeFaces.
   • Database Tier: Postgres, Oracle 12c.
4. Proven ability to translate business processes into technical solutions.
5. Experience with Jira and Confluence in agile environments.

Desired Skills & Experience:

1. Familiarity with BC Government standards and compliance requirements.
2. Prior experience with transitioning systems off legacy platforms.
3. Expertise in API development and microservices architectures.
4. Strong skills in software documentation and creating technical reference materials.
5. Proven ability to support the development and maintenance of complex systems.

Terms:
This contract is for the Modernizing OpenVMS project with the Public Sector Client. It will involve replacing legacy systems and implementing new solutions to enhance data integration and system functionality. Candidates must reside in Canada and be legally authorized to work in the country. U.S.-based applicants are not eligible. Successful candidates may undergo background checks as required.
