Professor John Chambers is the Toh Kian Chui Professor of Cardiovascular Epidemiology and Programme Director of the Population and Global Health Research Programme at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), Nanyang Technological University. He is also the Chief Scientific Officer for the National Precision Medicine Programme. His research programme aims to identify the molecular mechanisms underlying diabetes and premature cardiovascular disease in Asian populations, and to translate these findings into new approaches for improved prevention and early detection of these major chronic diseases.
His research team is hiring a Research Assistant to provide research support to his research programme to develop stratified approaches for health promotion and therapeutic intervention, in particularly for type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular disease (CVD).
Key Responsibilities:
Reading / Quality check of the Carotid artery intima media thickness (CIMT) measurements and / or retinal images based on a given protocol.
Generate reports on the findings. Able to handle, escalate and report incidental findings to study PIs.
Assess and give suggestions to improve measurements and / or images quality. Keep inventory of measurements and / or images.
Maintain accurate and complete documentation / records of all readings performed and strategies undertaken to improve the measurements and / or images.
Contribute to the production of research reports and/or publications.
Assist in co-ordination of project-related meetings, taking down summary of meeting, etc.
Undertake any other duties relevant to the programme of research.
Key Competencies and Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences, biotechnology or related fields
Skills in using statistical and / or bioinformatics software, Microsoft software will be advantageous.
Excellent trouble shooting, organization skills, and problem solving skills are also required as well as the ability to work in a team environment.
Highly motivated, reliable and creative. Possess the ability to work independently and effectively with research details. Willing to learn new things.
Have strong organizational and effective communication skills.
Self-motivated and pro-active attitude.
