The NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity, a world-leading education and research group in geroscience and geromedicine, is seeking passionate and innovative Research Assistants (Exercise Science) to join our dynamic team. This exciting role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in the field of healthy longevity medicine, working at the forefront of clinical trials for gerotherapeutic interventions aimed at measuring and slowing biological age.

As part of the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme (HLTRP) within the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, you will be at the heart of our mission to add healthy years to life by delaying aging, prolonging disease-free life, and enhancing quality of life. This position presents an unparalleled chance to shape the future of healthcare and make a lasting impact on global health outcomes.

Purpose of the Role

In the Research Assistant (Exercise Science) role at the NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity, you will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of healthy aging through clinical trials and research initiatives. Your expertise will be instrumental in supporting groundbreaking studies aimed at measuring and slowing biological age, with a focus on gerotherapeutic interventions.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant (exercise science) is expected to:

  • Work with the clinical and research teams to manage the day-to-day activities of the various services including their development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Perform routine clinical assessments according to Standard Operating Procedures in clinical practice and ongoing research studies.
  • Interpret participant tests and procedures, including physiological measurements, such as VO2max, anthropometric measurements, as well as prescribe aerobic and resistance exercises based on current clinical guidelines.
  • Perform recruitment of clinical service participants for research studies, and scheduling for study visits.
  • Support the research and clinical teams with other activities when required.
  • Maintain clinical documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures, data records, equipment maintenance.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assess and validate new assessment methods before implementing into clinical practice and research.
  • Train new staff and students on Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Mentor and identify training needs for junior staff.
  • Comply with clinical inventory management procedures.
  • Comply with good clinical practice.
  • Coordinate with team to help ensure that clinical research and related activities are performed in accordance with national regulations, university/institute and sponsoring agency’s policies and procedures.
Qualifications

The applicant should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science and/or allied health with a strong interest in implementing exercise testing and prescription for adults.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant clinical experience is preferred.
  • Understanding of or experience with human clinical studies and or observational longitudinal studies
  • Experience in routine clinical assessments in research studies is advantageous.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to undertake a range of tasks concurrently.
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in easily understood format for a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to speak a second local language would be an advantage as you may need to interact with patients who only speak their mother tongue.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team linking different fields (e.g. exercise sciences, geroscience, nutrition).
