The Structural Steel Shop Lead is responsible for directing shop work to ensure production schedules are met, quality standards are maintained, and safety protocols are followed.

Education: Training in welding, metal fabrication, or a related area.

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in steel fabrication, welding.
• Previous experience in a supervisory or foreman role.
• Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines.
• A leader that thrives in a culture of development, seeks challenges, responsibility, and strives to exceed production goals.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
• Strong knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to fabrication work, especially OSHA standards.

Leadership Skills:

• Experience effectively managing a team and overseeing shop operations.
• Ability to motivate and train team members.
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to conduct oneself professionally and lead by example.

Communication Skills:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with project managers, staff, clients, and suppliers.
• Capability to provide clear instructions and feedback to team members.
• Keeps management updated regularly.
• Reports and addresses issues promptly and professionally.

Safety and Workmanship:

• Ability to ensure quality control throughout fabrication.
• Commitment to high standards in workmanship and safety.

Organizational Skills:

• Strong ability to maximize production outputs.
• Ability to delegate tasks and keep the team accountable.

Computer Skills (optional but advantageous):

• Ability to learn and work with tools like Tekla and Bluebeam.

Schedule Requirements:

• Open shop at 5:30 am.
• 60-70 hour work week.
• Weekend work as required.
• Ability to work out of town as needed.
