Purpose:
This position is primarily responsible for developing and maintaining the corporate SLMS/PLIMP framework, writing and approving engineering assessments, and providing corporate guidance on pipeline integrity-related items. The role includes developing manuals, understanding and developing pipeline risk assessment initiatives, supporting field staff as required, and ensuring meticulous implementation and record keeping, maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Undertake, review and approve a variety of engineering assessments for pipelines and their related systems.
- Develop and Update Pipeline Procedures and Standards: Create and revise pipeline procedures and standards as outlined in the POMM Matrix, ensuring they are current and effective.
- Lead SLMS, POMM, and Risk Assessment Committees: Take charge of the SLMS, POMM, and Risk Assessment committees, ensuring each program is updated and maintained as necessary to meet corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Review and Report on Pipeline Risk Assessments: Conduct thorough reviews and generate detailed reports on corporate pipeline risk assessment activities, ensuring compliance with corporate standards and PLIMP guidelines.
- Monitor SLMS and POMM Activities: Oversee and report on SLMS and POMM activities, ensuring they align with the corporate PLIMP guidelines and contribute to overall pipeline integrity.
- Provide Guidance and Support: Offer expert guidance and support to Calgary Facilities Engineers, construction teams and field staff on integrity related issues. Ensure adherence to the SLMS Framework, CSA Z662 Standard, and relevant regulations and acts, including tasks related to pipeline engineering assessments, reactivation, and decommissioning.
- Technical Support for Corrosion Mitigation: Provide expert technical support to the Production team in developing, implementing, and managing pipeline and surface piping corrosion mitigation and sand management programs.
- Pipeline Design Reviews: Participate in pipeline design reviews, including optimization projects and Management of Change (MOC) processes, ensuring designs meet all necessary standards and requirements.
- Pipeline Failure Investigations: Assist in investigating pipeline failures, conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and supporting the implementation of recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
- Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary liaison with regulators for internal and external audits, ensuring compliance and addressing any regulatory concerns.
- Pipeline Integrity Performance Reporting: Compile pipeline integrity performance information in accordance with Z662, Annex N requirements, and support the integration of this data into the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) process.
- PLIMP Compliance Reviews and Audits: Initiate and participate in periodic internal PLIMP compliance reviews and audit activities, ensuring that corrective actions are documented and implemented in the Enterprise Asset Management database.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Ensure that all PLIMP-related documentation and record-keeping are completed in accordance with the SLMS Framework and CSA Z662 requirements.
- Support for Health, Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory Requirements: Demonstrate adherence to Veren’s policies and work standards through day-to-day activities, supporting health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Ongoing Training and Development: Attend ongoing training sessions to further personal and professional development.
- Collaboration with Chief Inspector: Work closely with the Chief Inspector on any integrity-related matters concerning pressure equipment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Have a bachelor’s degree in engineering within a related field (mechanical, chemical, or metallurgical is preferred). Being a registered Professional Engineer with APEGA is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years' pipeline integrity experience.
- Detailed knowledge of pipeline regulations and asset management, with in-depth experience in Z662 and fitness-for-service assessments.
- Have relevant experience in pipeline integrity, risk assessment, and integrity inspection technologies.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods.
- Experience with In-Line Inspection or other Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) is an asset.
- Understanding of the Safety Codes Act and ABSA regulations is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Effective communication and technical writing skills to articulate results and recommendations.
- Knowledge and familiarity with upstream field operations are an asset.
