Maintenance Supervisor

St. John’s, NL

Introduction

We are hiring a Maintenance Supervisor for our food and beverage client based in Pleasantville – St. John’s, Newfoundland. This incumbent is responsible for the supervision of maintenance personnel while coordinating daily maintenance activities to ensure they are completed safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

1. Effectively manage daily activities of maintenance staff, including training, performance management, employee coaching, scheduling, and leave management.
2. Provide technical advice and guidance regarding the repair and maintenance of all machines and equipment.
3. Ensure the preventative maintenance program is effectively followed.
4. Ensure departmental budgets are appropriately developed and adhered to.
5. Responsible for departmental OHS and food safety by ensuring employees follow safe work procedures.
6. Lead weekly maintenance meetings.
7. Analyze departmental performance indicators and make improvements as required.
8. Coordinate and supervise outside contractors for specific projects or jobs.
9. Assist in the planning for and oversee new machinery installations and building renovations.
10. Recommend changes in equipment design, layout, or operation to improve product quality or plant productivity.
11. Requisition supplies and materials required for the day-to-day operations of the maintenance department.
12. Authorize overtime and verify employee time records.
13. Perform other related duties.

Requirements

1. Must have completed a post-secondary Engineering/Technology program or be a Journeyperson Millwright or Electrician.
2. 3+ years’ experience in supervision.
3. 3+ years’ experience in a food processing, manufacturing, or similar industry.
4. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
5. Excellent team building and performance management skills.
6. Experience in a unionized environment would be an asset.
7. Will be a rotation of day shifts and night shifts.
8. Day shift: 7:30-4:30PM (with some flexibility, but an 8-hour working shift, unpaid lunch).
9. Night shift: 11PM-7:30AM (also some flexibility).
