Overview
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who inspires and drives excellence in the adoption and implementation of health, safety, and environmental programs across Wonderbrands' West Region, covering four locations. While operating independently, they will actively contribute to the national HSE team, helping to develop new initiatives and enhance existing programs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Acts as a facilitator and consultant to the facility management team.
- Ensures facilities are working within all legislative requirements and corporate standards by conducting regular reviews.
- Provides direct hands-on support in areas such as: environmental permits, industrial hygiene assessments, completing PDA’s/JSA’s, problem analysis/troubleshooting, risk assessments, and interpretation of applicable legislation and practices including compliance and/or non-compliance issues.
- Conducts research and takes ownership of assigned standards/areas of practice.
- Evaluates effectiveness of workplace inspections and is involved in regular workplace inspections in their assigned facilities.
- Assists in facility internal and external HSE audits as required.
- Meets with regulatory agencies during facility inspections/audits as required.
- Provides counsel and advice on corrective actions.
- Acts as a resource support in the development and periodic review of location-specific HSE Training Needs Analysis and delivery.
- Encourages the continuous learning & development of facility team members by staying in regular contact & conducting update meetings, coaches and mentors new members regularly.
- Attends JHSC and other committee meetings where deemed necessary as well as reports issues or items of concern immediately to appropriate management.
- Continuously upgrades knowledge and stays abreast of industry developments through attendance at relevant courses and by reviewing publications.
- Shares knowledge and information amongst facilities.
- Ensures all regulatory reporting requirements are being met.
- Reports all items of concern to management immediately.
- Analyzes HSE related statistical data and assists facilities in developing injury reduction/action plans to address deficiencies.
- Conducts presentations to management and corporate HSE, as required.
- Provides knowledge, direction and guidance to assist the plant management team in the reduction and elimination of waste from its operations and the discharge of contaminants to the environment.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Completion of relevant university/college program in Health, Safety or Environmental.
- Minimum 5 years progressive HS&E experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent organizational, planning, problem solving and communication skills (oral and written).
- Demonstrated knowledge of risk assessment and root cause analysis tools. Proven ability to assess risk and assist stakeholders with implementation of safety devices and controls.
- Good knowledge of safety devices and machine guarding methodology and principles, ventilation assessment/review, noise and vibration assessments and industrial hygiene sampling.
- Strong knowledge and working experience with local HSE regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to carry out statistical/trend analysis.

- Detail-oriented with a capacity to think critically and problem solve.
- Excellent people skills to handle inquiries, complaints/issues.
- Ability to interact with regulatory agencies, contractors, and customers.
