Senior Geologist, Mine Exploration
The Senior Mine Exploration Geologist provides Mine resource development through drilling and geology understanding. In partnership with the Senior Resource Geologist, the Mine Exploration Geologist supports the drilling needs to optimize the Resource block model.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties:
Area 1:
- Define targets and design drill holes.
- Execute the drilling planned to achieve a high level of precision.
- Ensure logging is done with the level of details and consistency needed to meet the objectives.
- Ensure that the data collected by the Geology team and technicians is accurate.
- Validate field data: Survey – Deviation – Lithology - Assay results.
- Oversee the accuracy and effectiveness of geological database.
- Validate the geological interpretations carried out by the Geology team.
- Integrate the grade control information/observation into the drilling/logging/modelling.
- Validate the accuracy and application of the 3D models for modelled areas.
- Execute the modelling and validate it against DDH-RC-BH. Maintain QA/QC process and assessment of results.
Area 2:
- Update/improve geological modelling such as: lithology, structure, alteration, mineralization, etc.
- Validate the quality of drilling data and ensure effective communication with all stakeholders.
- Validate the quality of laboratory test results and ensure effective communication.
- Develop and implement procedures and working methodologies for drilling.
- Ensure that these procedures and methodologies are documented according to required standards.
- Recommend updates or changes to the resource estimation modelling in order to improve the quality and efficiency of estimates.
- Ensure that all modifications are implemented and documented.
- Manage all information relating to the drilling and participate in reconciliation exercises.
- Produce official drill reports.
Area 3:
- Establish and maintain geology software, databases, QAQC programs and 3D models.
- Participate in the training and development of geologists and geological technicians (3D modeling).
- Coach and train other Geologists to ensure adequate and competent succession.
Area 4:
- Work collaboratively with others to deliver innovative continuous improvement opportunities.
- Seek and implement best-in-class practices.
- Propose new methods to meet challenges of mine geology (grade control – resource – reserve).
- Propose and improve the ore body understanding.
- Keep abreast of trends in mine geology and impart to Cote Gold.
- Provide new approaches, methods or policies to optimize drilling performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational standards.
- Continuously seek to improve technical knowledge and skills.
- Conduct research and benchmarking to support decision-making and improve mining processes, technologies and methodologies used for the mine.

- Act as the guard dog of the ore management at Cote Gold.
Qualifications & Skill Requirements
Minimum Qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents
- Post-secondary degree in geology or other mining related field.
- Registration (or eligibility to register) as a Geologist (PGO) or Engineer in Geology (Peng) in Ontario.
Work Experience – Nature & Length
- A minimum of 7 years of geology experience in a mining or exploration environment.
Additional Qualifications – Competency Requirements
- Understanding of database management systems (aQuire) and QAQC principles.
- Proficiency in Leapfrog. Understanding of geostatistical and resource estimation methods.
- Experience in deep holes deviation and correction. Attention to detail.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently including organizing and prioritizing job duties.
- Commitment to develop innovative solutions for the organization.
- Commitment to teamwork and talent development to ensure the effectiveness of the geology team.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
