The purpose of the role is to conduct in-depth, specialised and quality credit assessment and risk analysis on potential Growth Portfolio clients to enhance decision-making regarding the Bank's appetite to extend credit. This includes financial analysis, interpretation and capturing of client information (company financial statements) and qualitative data.
Responsibilities
- Risk Management
- Monitor client performance on a continuous basis for risk indicators and perform formal reviews at specified intervals to identify changes in the client’s business or operating environment
- Monitor adherence to covenants and conditions and discuss deviations with Sales team; escalate to Line Management and Credit if necessary
- Adhere to ARMS credit requirements as stipulated in Absa credit policy; monitor and report boundary events per Operational Risk Boundary
- Obtain input from Product Industry Specialist to assist in client solutioning and credit application process
- Identify the need for meetings between high-risk clients, Credit and Business Support
- Request updated valuations on properties serving as security for facilities in line with Absa Credit policies
- Manage and communicate risks associated with outstanding securities
- Proactively identify problematic/high-risk clients and advise Credit; manage them with input and implement loss preventative measures (e.g., EWL Reports)
- Request and manage outstanding Financial Statements as stipulated in Absa Credit policy
- Action and manage daily Odex, Referrals, REPL and REPC; contact clients on referral listings for rectification
- Credit Management
- Explore new, improved, and alternative ways of solutioning client credit requirements
- Adhere to Bank’s credit policies and procedures and ensure full compliance; address and mitigate any policy breaches
- Provide bank codes and reports on clients
- Proactively manage credit risks associated with the portfolio and related products
- Manage and drive the deal forum process to ensure high-quality applications are submitted to sanctioners with sustainable credit solutions
- Portfolio Financial and Operational Management
- Compile reviews, amendments, and new applications to the appropriate lending authorities
- Issue facility letters to clients after reviews and new facilities are granted
- Draft and issue reminder letters when facilities expire (e.g., 30-, 60-, 90-day letters) according to policy
- Contribute to Non-Interest Income by ensuring recovery of manual fees (e.g., reviews, valuations) to avoid revenue leakages
- Spread client’s financials on Credit Risk Grading models (e.g., Agriculture Model, RiskCalc Model, Triad)
- Provide Default Grading (DG) output from Credit Risk models
- Capture all information on risk grading models accurately, ensuring model balance checks
- Client Solutioning and Customer Service
- Identify cross-sell opportunities from analysis of client’s financials, account conduct and industry changes; pass leads to Relationship Executive/Transactional Banker
- Attend sales best practice sessions with stakeholders, provide credit input to mitigate risk on products or acquisitions, and monitor progress through the sales funnel to deal conversion
- Research the industry of portfolio clients to understand profitability, trends, and market standing relative to competitors

- The position is On-site and will require some physical travel to clients
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas in Business, Commerce and Management Studies, or Credit Risk with five years or more of relevant work experience
- Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Agricultural Credit Analysis experience (Advantageous)
