Our client is currently seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their fast-paced team of nuclear specialists to work on the Devonport 14 Dock upgrade project. This role offers flexibility in terms of location, but the candidate will be required to visit the site at Devonport approximately once every few months.

The successful candidate will have a mechanical handling background with a solid understanding of structural and handling systems. They will work on the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems that meet the requirements of the 14 Dock upgrade, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and safety protocols.

1. Lead the mechanical handling systems design, providing expert input on all stages of the 14 Dock upgrade project.
2. Apply knowledge of BS EN 13001 standards to ensure compliance in mechanical handling and lifting systems.
3. Develop and define mechanical engineering requirements, as well as scope definitions, for the project.
4. Collaborate with internal and external teams to deliver system solutions, focusing on mechanical handling, structural integrity, and operational efficiency.
5. Provide technical leadership and support to junior engineers, ensuring high standards of engineering practice and safety.
6. Ensure that designs and systems adhere to relevant CE/UKCA marking and Machinery Directive regulations.
7. Work on the nuclear experience requirements, providing solutions that meet the unique needs of nuclear environments, if applicable.
8. Support systems engineering processes, integrating mechanical handling systems within the broader engineering context of the project.
9. Maintain effective communication with stakeholders, ensuring project objectives are met on time and within budget.

1. Chartered Engineer (ideally) or working towards Chartership.
2. Strong mechanical handling background with practical experience in lifting, handling, and load management.
3. In-depth knowledge of BS EN 13001 (Lifting and handling systems standards).
4. Experience in nuclear environments or an understanding of the specific requirements for nuclear projects.
5. Experience with CE/UKCA marking to Machinery Directive standards.
6. Strong experience in systems engineering, particularly in requirements definition and scope definition.
7. Ideally, candidates should have SC clearance or be eligible for it.
8. Exposure to Eurocode standards would be beneficial.

1. Ideally, previous experience working on Defence or Docking systems projects.
2. Understanding of safety-critical environments and a focus on risk management.
