Role:
This role provides essential support to the district by covering holidays, assisting with various tasks, and preparing for a full-time territory assignment within six months post onboarding/training. The candidate will work closely with the District Sales Manager (DSM), handling assigned responsibilities while gaining hands-on experience through training and backfilling roles as needed. Throughout the six-month development period, they will actively participate in holiday coverage and other key functions to build the skills necessary to transition into a Sales Consultant (SC) position at 6 months post training/onboarding.
Individuals in this position are responsible for helping the customer succeed while achieving specific team and individual sales and profit goals set by the company. This role is responsible for the account management and growth of independent sales with a territory size between $4 – $6 million dollars in annual sales.
Role Responsibilities:
- Articulates and demonstrates the Sysco value proposition to engage and onboard new customers to Sysco products, services, and promotions using consultative selling methods.
- Responsible for Strategic Account Planning, developing new business, growing account portfolio, and retaining customer accounts to achieve profitable sales growth within assigned territory.
- Evaluates customer business needs and analyzes market trends to develop customer centric product and service solutions.
- Possess strong negotiation skills and ability to manage and maintain profitable margins.
- Stays informed of market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products and sales; share information with customers as part of value-added services provided.
- Leverages Sales technology and business resources to provide end-to-end sales consultative services.
- Demonstrates commitment to continuous learning to optimize performance and career growth.
- All account management and customer service responsibilities.
- Credit and Accounts Receivables management.
- Increases customer share of wallet and improves sales mix.
- Mandatory use of CRM tool (Sysco 360) as customer relationship management and pipeline management, as well as a communication and measurement tool.
- Utilizes eCommerce for between 70%-100% of all customer order management.
- Utilizes PMT & Deal Manager to support territory and market share growth.
- Oversight to pricing management and strategy for the territory.
- May be required to work non-traditional hours, while also providing a level of individual autonomy to support and successfully meet customer needs.
- Tracks activities and results, collaborates on opportunities, and champions the team selling process through use of Salesforce (Sysco’s CRM tool).
- Takes a proactive approach to owning learning and development by actively participating in large group, district and specialized training programs to sharpen consultative selling skills and product knowledge.
- Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
- Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their supervisor.
- Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements (About you):
- 2 years or more of sales experience required.
- Completion of post-secondary education or equivalent experience.
- Professional salesperson with proven ability to cultivate relationships and grow sales.
- Strong financial acumen and ability to properly plan and execute business plans.
- Demonstrated skills in consultative selling, networking and negotiations.
- Business and restaurant operations acumen to manage sophisticated customers.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with and influence a variety of key stakeholders.
- Ability to express information in terms of profit and loss, food cost and expense ratio.
- Strong communication skills: ability to effectively communicate with internal and external teams.
- Demonstrate a high level of business acumen and interpersonal savvy.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to execute multiple initiatives at the same time.
- Ability to learn the use of proprietary CRM tools for planning and forecasting sales growth.
- Solid analytical problem-solving skills, including familiarity with analyzing reports and deriving insights from data.
- Proactive, self-directed, with the ability to structure a weekly schedule to be successful.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing with access to a vehicle is required. Travel varies based on geographical territory.
