The Role
We are looking for the next Operations Manager of the Canadian Astronomy Data Centre (CADC) at the Herzberg Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Centre (HAA). The Operations Manager will be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity. The CADC is responsible for distributing to science users the observational data from Canada’s suite of ground and space-based observatories, providing advanced processing of the raw observations from those observatories and preserving those observations for use by future generations of astronomers.
In 2024 the Canadian astronomy community joined the SKA Telescope project which will become the world's largest astronomical radio telescope. The SKA Regional Centre Network (SRCNet) is building out a cloud computing infrastructure that will interact with over a dozen cloud sites around the world. The CADC is leading Canada’s contribution to SRCNet which will be developed as part of CANFAR (Canadian Advanced Network For Astronomy Research). CANFAR, which the CADC operates, will grow from its current base of 100s of users and 1000s of cores to 1000s of users and 10,000s of cores. As the manager of the CADC Operations Team, you will be responsible for managing the team ensuring the successful operation of CADC and CANFAR services. You will implement efficient team management, clear workflow prioritization, and adherence to operational standards. Your responsibilities include deploying and monitoring the web service layer, managing staffing processes and supporting staff development.
A key aspect of your role will be implementing client service policies to meet CADC’s high standards, ensuring that client inquiries are handled professionally and promptly. Additionally, you’ll contribute to the design and development of new CADC systems, focusing on best practices and comprehensive documentation.

Working in tandem with our cloud infrastructure providers at the Digital Research Alliance of Canada the Operations Team to deliver on CADC’s mission to deliver value to research astronomers through the development and provision of astronomy data focused information technology services.

From $118,246 to $142,767 per annum.
