Doctor Assistant (Full-Time)
Specialty: Multi-Specialty Float
Status: 1-year term with possibility of permanent placement after 1-year
Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday
(7.5 paid hours with 1 hour unpaid lunch and two paid 20 min coffee breaks)

Position Summary
Within a multi-disciplinary team, the Doctor Assistant provides clinical support to healthcare providers, performing a variety of patient-related activities, billing, and ensuring a clean, orderly work environment. As a float, you would be filling in for both planned and unexpected absences (vacation, medical, sick, etc.) while getting to experience a variety of specialties.
Qualifications and Skills
- Graduate of an approved Medical Office Assistant Program – Preferred *a combination of experience and other education may be considered
- Experience with EMR – Accuro - Preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively with the general public and other members of the Winnipeg Clinic
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, communication, and interpersonal skills
Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Answer phones, book appointments (e.g., referrals and patients), EMR tasks, importing, handling mail, and test results
- Prep documents for daily clinics and for special requests (e.g., day sheets/billing slips, prescription refills, abnormal test results, physician requests, etc.)
- Book surgeries and outpatient procedures (e-booking)
- Escort patients to examination rooms and ensure they are prepared for examination
- Perform preparatory work such as height, weight, temperature, etc., when indicated
- Explain procedures and examinations where appropriate
- Provide patients with information packages for surgeries to be done at hospitals and requisitions for laboratory tests
- Attend examinations and assist with minor procedures or the collection of specimens as requested by the physician
- Assist with surgical procedures
- Ensure that requisitions are properly filled
- Perform functions such as changing dressings, stitch removal, applying compresses, testing vision, and minor laboratory tests, such as urinalysis
- Use universal precautions in the handling of all specimens and body fluids
- Monitor equipment and instruments for integrity and report the need for repair or replacement
- Monitor medical supply and laundry inventory, and order as needed
- Billing for physician’s practice
- Provide coverage for Doctor Assistants as required
- Any other duties or responsibilities required to support the assigned physician’s practice and ensure the workload is accomplished

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.31-$22.15 per hour
