Citizens Advice East Devon, who are a local independent charity and members of the national Citizens Advice network, are looking for a new Chair to lead the charity. We help over 5,000 people every year find a way forward through the hardest times.

What difference will you make?

1. Make a positive impact for people in your local area by ensuring the charity is sustainable and meeting the needs of the community.
2. Ensure the charity has the resources and structure in place to continue delivering essential advice.
3. Lead our Research and Campaigning activities - meeting with local MPs, County Councillors, District Councillors and CEOs to drive social change.
4. Lead our relationship with national Citizens Advice.
5. Take a leading role in Citizens Advice Devon and other regional bodies.
6. Meet people and build relationships with trustees, staff and other volunteers.
7. Build on your governance, leadership and strategy skills and increase your employability.
8. Take the opportunity to sit on local decision making groups and bodies.

What are we looking for?

1. You will have extensive and proven leadership experience.
2. Be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own.
3. Good basis of leadership skills.
4. Ability to facilitate and lead meetings.
5. Good interpersonal skills.

What will you be doing?

The Citizens Advice service offers free confidential advice online, over the phone, and in person. We give people the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem. We help with everything from money issues to problems at work, housing to consumer rights. While you may not have experience of the charitable sector, or the Citizens Advice service, you will have extensive and proven leadership experience. Compassionate leadership and collaboration skills are essential in leading our Trustee Board to provide oversight and governance support and to support our Chief Executive to develop new strategies and initiatives. You will be passionate about social justice and our work, share our values, and lead by example. You will be able to support the trustee board and Leadership Team with financial management, income generation, and supporting workforce development, while promoting the continued growth of an inclusive team culture and developing a trusted community service.
