We are looking for a highly-motivated and ambitious communications professional who has experience either in internal communications, public relations or editorial roles. Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, the role is a fantastic opportunity for someone with 3-5 years’ communications experience looking to develop their skills at an in-house role. Excellent organisation, attention to detail and writing skills are essential for this role.
The Communications Team sits within the External Affairs function of the BVCA and the Communications Officer’s main responsibilities will be to engage with journalists, produce compelling copy for a range of communications products and enhance the BVCA’s social media presence. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and the energy and motivation to meet demanding deadlines.
The role involves:
- Drafting a range of high impact communications including press releases, social media posts and newsletter copy to demonstrate the positive role of private equity and venture capital in the UK.
- Supporting the development of BVCA publications including reports and newsletters. Responsibilities will include commissioning stories, copywriting and sub-editing.
- Producing a widely read internal daily news round-up of stories about the industry and wider economic issues.
- Building relationships with the media with particular emphasis on engaging regional journalists to demonstrate the impact of the industry in every nation and region of the UK.
- Producing media evaluation reports to show impact of media/PR activity, including sentiment analysis.
- Dealing with incoming media enquiries.
- Managing a media database.
Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Comfortable working in a policy and data-rich environment.
- Previous experience of communicating directly and confidently with journalists.
- An ability to generate story ideas that showcase the value of the private equity and venture capital industry.
- Understanding of the financial and professional services industries is helpful.
- Interest in Financial Public Relations and/or key areas relevant to advocacy for private equity and venture capital.
- Appreciates time-sensitivity of work and able to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple workstreams.
- A self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team.
- Experience of working in a membership organisation is desirable, but not essential.
- Experience of website maintenance is desirable but not essential.
- Good organisational and project management skills.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
- Knowledge of social media communications best practice.
