Nova Scotia is rich in natural resources including biodiversity, forests, geological resources, provincial parks, and the land we manage. The Department of Natural Resources is responsible for the development, management, conservation and protection of forest, mineral, parks and wildlife resources and the administration of the province's Crown lands. Together we are working with Nova Scotians to build a better future through sustainable natural resource management.

Under the supervision of the Manager, Forest Management Planning and Research and working closely with the 2BT program lead, the 2BT Coordinator assists the Program Specialist in the administration and delivery of an anticipated multi-year provincial tree planting program in support of the Federal 2-Billion Trees Initiative launched by NRCan in 2021.

Reporting to the Manager, Forest Management Planning and Research, your primary accountabilities will include:

• Administer the provincial 2BT program, in close collaboration with a third-party delivery agent and program participants.
• Ensure all timelines and reporting requirements are met and the program remains in compliance with guidelines set forth by the funding agencies (NRCan and NSDNRR).
• Liaise with program partners, including government and non-government agencies, third-party program delivery agents, and project proponents.
• Participate in steering committee meetings, provide technical support, evaluate project proposals, promote and implement new initiatives as needed.
• Provide advice and guidance to program partners and participants during project development and implementation.
• Conduct field visits and site assessments, collect relevant data to support project goals.
• Work with program partners to ensure availability of wild tree seed for nursery stock production.

• Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in forestry or related field, and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in natural resource management or project management.
• Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be a problem solver, and demonstrate initiative, client-focus, and skills in planning and time management.
• The successful candidate must have an aptitude for natural resource project management. This position also requires a strong working knowledge of computer software including email, word processing and spreadsheet applications, as well as creating documentation for system or process changes.
• Experience in forest management or ecosystem restoration are considered assets. Working knowledge of forestry practices, forest ecology, and ecological restoration principles are other assets to be considered. Aptitude with GIS and ESRI products is an asset.
• You must possess a valid driver’s license.

This position is a combination of office work (based in Truro) and travel province-wide to forest environments to facilitate 2BT projects and to collaborate with project clients. Field work will include extensive working in forest environments and carrying small amounts of field equipment.

Pay Grade: PR 06- PR 10

Salary Range: $1,924.95- $2,760.42 Bi-Weekly
