A government agency in Nunavut is seeking full-time Mental Health Consultants to provide quality mental health care. The role involves assessing and planning care while working within a multi-disciplinary team. Candidates should have an undergraduate degree in social work or a related field, along with over five years of front-line counseling and therapy experience. Knowledge of Inuit communities and fluency in multiple official languages are assets. Competitive recruitment bonuses and additional hourly premiums are offered.

For full‑time, permanent Mental Health Consultants, recruitment bonuses include: $3,000 on start date, $3,000 at 6 months of service, $5,000 at 1 year of service and $7,000 at 2 years of service. The Mental Health Consultants also receive a $10/hour tier one premium.
Reporting to the Regional Manager, Mental Health and Addictions (MHA), the Mental Health Consultant provides mental health care to individuals, families and groups to support them to function at an optimal level of wellness; to alleviate suffering and to promote mental health. The MH Consultant is part of a multi‑disciplinary team that integrates services with various community resources.
As part of a multidisciplinary team to provide quality care, the MH Consultant will assess, plan, implement, document and evaluate care to ensure a coordinated, holistic, and culturally relevant approach to meet the needs of the client. The MH Consultant will conduct mental exams, suicide risk assessment, identification of persons at risk of harm to self and/or others and crisis response. The MH Consultant will also develop strategies to support client self‑efficacy and advocate for the dignity and self‑respect of all individuals. The MH Consultant will also maintain client and administrative records in a concise, accurate and confidential manner, following professional and legal guidelines and protecting the dignity and rights of the clients.
The knowledge, skills and experience required for this job are usually obtained through an undergraduate degree in social work or a mental health related field along with five (5) years of recent experience providing front‑line counselling and trauma and addiction therapy. A master’s degree in social work or a related field is considered an asset. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross‑cultural environment are also considered assets.
