YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:
Reporting to the General Manager, you will be part of the Mill Operations Department. You will be responsible for overseeing the management of tailings storage facilities, critical infrastructure (including their construction), water resources, and environmental compliance at our mining operation. You will ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements, the industry’s best practices, and company policies to minimize environmental impact and ensure the safety of our operations. Additionally, you will support the implementation of our governance of critical infrastructures and hold accountability for permitting processes. You will also ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct, and the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tailings Management:
- Develop and implement both long and short-term tailings management plans, including design, construction, operation, maintenance, and closure of tailings storage facilities;
- Develop a program and oversee inspections and audits of tailings facilities to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards;
- Coordinate with engineering teams to design and maintain tailings dams and other related infrastructure;
- Oversee the preparation of regulatory reports and documentation related to tailings management;
- Support the implementation of our governance of critical infrastructures;
- Coordinate the permitting process for the Tailings Storage Facilities and associated infrastructures, and liaise with the Macassa permitting team (local and regional) so permits can be obtained in a timely manner.
- Water Management:
- Oversee the management of water resources, including water balance, water supply, usage, and discharge;
- Support the development of water management plans to ensure sustainable use and compliance with environmental regulations;
- Oversee the implementation of measures to mitigate any adverse impacts on the environment;
- Oversee environmental and engineering teams to design and maintain water management infrastructure;
- Support coordination with the mill to ensure optimum water treatment plant operation for required QA/QC.
- Promote site awareness of environmental requirements and conditions for operations;
- Provide support and advice to department heads on inclusion of environmental considerations in work plans;
- Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and standards, including those related to air quality, waste management, and biodiversity;
- Oversee the development and implementation of environmental management systems and policies;
- Oversee environmental impact assessments and audits;
- Oversee environmental team’s liaison with regulatory agencies, community stakeholders, and other relevant parties on environmental matters;
- Accountable for site permitting;
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, environmental professionals, technicians, operators, labourers, consultants, and contractors;
- Provide training and development opportunities for team members;
- Foster a culture of safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement within the team;
- Manage the department for optimum efficiency in relation to budgeting, resources, and scheduling of activities;
- Communicate and work effectively with all levels in the organization in relation to Tailings, Water and Environmental site matters.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mining, Geological or Environmental Engineering, or a related field;
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in tailings management, water management, or environmental compliance in the mining industry;
- Strong knowledge of Canadian environmental regulations and industry standards, including CDA (Canadian Dam Association) guidelines, MAC (Mining Association of Canada) guidelines and TSM (Towards Sustainable Mining). GISTM (Global Industry Standard for Tailings Management) is an asset;
- Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills;
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and lead cross-functional teams;
- Proficiency in relevant civil and environmental management software;
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration;
- Experience with geotechnical engineering and dam safety;
- Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
Your Work Schedule:
- Schedule: 4 days of work, followed by 3 days off at our Macassa Mine in Kirkland Lake, ON.
