Job Report
The Senior Teaching Manager (STM) reports to the Center Director (CD), STM Coordinator, or Partner, as per contract, and consults with the assigned Academic Operation Manager (AOM).
Job Description
A. Communication
The STM is required to have a full understanding of the needs of the different staff members working for EF and have a strong awareness of the customer requirements. The STM needs to be an effective communicator skilled at influencing the team in the best interest of EF. Communication is subdivided into the following levels:
- Academic team level
- Organize and lead regular academic team meetings and effectively communicate management decisions and company updates to teachers.
- Increase cultural appreciation for the different nationalities working within the team and awareness of the needs of the different departments operating within.
- Maintain effective communication between teachers.
- Develop and maintain an effective professional relationship with members of the academic team.
- Center Level
- Meet regularly with the CD/STM COORDINATOR and other supervisors to exchange all relevant information.
- Implement academic changes resulting from company developments and group decisions, in agreement with the CD/STM COORDINATOR.
- Work closely with the CD/STM COORDINATOR and other supervisors to ensure effective inter-departmental cooperation.
- Proactively develop open channels of communication between the academic team and other teams within the center.
- Attend and lead weekly staff meetings to liaise with the sales, service team in case of student level change, complaints, student disciplinary matters, academic queries, and course management duties.
- Deal with staff (teacher, CD/STM COORDINATOR, service, and sales) concerns promptly and effectively, communicating needs to other managers/departments as necessary.
- Provide the CD/STM COORDINATOR and other supervisors with copies of the academic team meeting minutes.
- Central Level
- Consult with the AOM regarding the academic quality, concerns, and projects in the center.
- Proactively develop open channels of communication with other STMs in the region and country.
- Keep the EF central support office informed of, and seek approval for, changes regarding the center’s academic program and systems.
- Share center initiatives and best practices with other centers in the network.
- Attend any scheduled central meetings.
B. Scheduling & Teacher Utility
- Liaise with the CD/STM COORDINATOR to ensure the effective scheduling of classes, extra-curricular activities, and events in accordance with EF Guidelines.
- Understand how group size and utility affect the performance of the center and assist the CD/STM COORDINATOR in scheduling teachers and classes in the best interest of the center.
- Schedule teachers the required number of academic classroom hours in accordance with contracts and maximize staff efficiency and effectiveness within the forty-hour working week.
- Maintain and ensure the accuracy of the center’s schedule in order to effectively communicate class times, course management procedures, administrative and extra-curricular duties to all staff members in accordance with EF Guidelines.
- Schedule and coordinate the placement testing of learners to ensure maximum teacher availability (In agreement with CD/STM COORDINATOR).
- Substitute and arrange cover for classes in the best interest of the center.
- Ensure that EF Extra, Life Clubs, and Parent Academies are scheduled in accordance with EF Guidelines.
C. Continuous Professional Development
- Taking an active role in personal assessment and development.
- Train and induct teachers in operational procedures and EF company products.
- Encourage, facilitate, and participate in the professional development of teachers.
- Participate in and encourage self-reflective teaching.
- Observe each teacher in accordance with EF guidelines.
- Conduct teacher performance reviews and teacher development plans in accordance with EF guidelines.
- Provide regular training to the sales, service, and management team regarding the academic product and any updates or changes during the non-peak season.
- Work with the CD/STM COORDINATOR, AOM, and Teachers to maintain the academic quality of the center.
- Lead and/or arrange regular seminars and workshops in teacher development.
- Participate in all relevant trainings offered by the center or EF central support office.
D. Academic Administration
- Become familiar with EF company procedures.
- Co-ordinate and implement all new operational procedures in a timely manner.
- Organize and participate in promotional activities as directed by the CD/STM COORDINATOR.
- Oversee the work, development, and behavior of students within the center.
- Maintain teacher personal files according to EF company requirements.
- Manage the teacher holiday, sick leave, and disciplinary action.
- Prepare the monthly payroll for the academic team for the approval of the CD/STM COORDINATOR.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance administrative systems.
- Ensure the recording, sharing, and filing of academic team meeting minutes.
- Monitor and ensure the regular timely completion of all Teacher’s administration tasks.
- Complete and send the monthly STM report and required supporting documents to the AOM.
- Monitor and ensure an efficient filing system for all academic based course management procedure administration.
E. EF Product Support
- Assist EF Product Development in the testing and implementation of new EF products (coordinate with CD/STM Coordinator).
- Proactively monitor the effectiveness of the EF products and provide appropriate feedback through established channels.
F. Facilities & Resources
- Maintain wall displays in the center and create an atmosphere conducive to learning.
- Train teachers in sensible resource management.
- Train teachers in maintaining a presentable center and well-organized teachers’ room.
- Ensure all classroom technology is in working order and well maintained.
- Train teachers to send product and IT related issues through Help Center.
- Maintain center academic folder on SharePoint.
- Maintain an effective filing system for academic materials.
- Manage and maintain an inventory of academic equipment belonging to the center.
G. Classroom Teaching
- Teach professional courses based on customer needs.
- Provide lessons to the highest standards using a variety of motivating techniques.
- Serve as a teaching model.
- Maintain awareness of new theories, approaches, and methodologies.
- Always seek to develop and update skills.

Essential Qualifications
- College/University graduate.
- A minimum of 6 years EFL teaching experience (external candidates).
- A recognized TEFL qualification (min. 120 hours) or equivalent.
- Previous managerial experience, preferably in an educational environment.
- Evidence of successful training and development of teachers.
- Apollo Senior Teacher 1 – 4.
- ST Performance Review > 3 (All sections).
- Regional Trainer.
Band Development
- Apollo STM 1.
- City/Group Trainer.
Preferable Qualifications
- Cert TESOL or DipTESOL teaching qualification and/or Masters in TEFL or related subject.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
