The Energy Division at ARM is currently recruiting an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join a well-established leading offshore installation contractor, who specializes in providing engineering and design services for pipelines and large offshore structures that support the Energy sector.
Job Overview:
The Offshore Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and interpreting geotechnical investigations to support the design and installation of offshore structures, including wind turbine foundations, oil & gas platforms, subsea pipelines, and seabed installations.
The role involves interpretation, data analysis, and foundation design/installation recommendations while ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
In this position you will be involved in:
1. Site Investigation Planning & Execution
- Develop geotechnical investigation scopes of work (SOW) for offshore projects.
- Select appropriate sampling and in-situ testing methods (CPT, boreholes, vane shear, etc.).
2. Data Analysis & Reporting
- Interpret soil laboratory test results (triaxial, consolidation, cyclic testing).
- Develop geotechnical design parameters (shear strength, stiffness, bearing capacity).
- Prepare Geotechnical Interpretive Reports (GIRs) and Foundation Design Reports (FDRs).
3. Foundation Design Support
- Provide geotechnical input for pile design, suction caissons, and shallow foundations.
- Perform axial and lateral pile capacity calculations (API, DNV, ISO methods).
- Perform pile installation analysis (pile driveability, refusal, set-up effects).
- Support FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) and detailed design phases.
4. Compliance & Standards
- Ensure adherence to ISO #removed#, API RP 2GEO, DNV-RP-C212, and client specifications.
- Participate in risk assessments (HAZID/HAZOP) related to geotechnical uncertainties.
- Review third-party reports and contractor deliverables for technical accuracy.
- Maintain awareness of current requirements and the latest Industry Codes and Standards including statutory rules and regulations.
- Ensure that all activities are carried out in a manner consistent with company policy on health, safety, quality, and environmental matters in accordance with company-specific procedures.
- Ensure personal safety and that of others is not compromised or placed at risk.
5. Project & Client Management
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and marine teams for integrated solutions.
- Provide technical support during offshore construction and installation.
- Communicate findings to clients, regulators, and certification bodies.
Requirements needed for this opportunity:
- 5-10 years experience in offshore geotechnics and foundations design.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Good knowledge of offshore drilling, CPT interpretation, soil-structure interaction, and geotechnical data interpretation.
- Experience with at least one finite element analysis (PLAXIS, ABAQUS) or pile design software (GRLWEAP, SPLICE, APILE, LPILE, SETTLE3D) would be a plus.
