Position Overview
The Senior Assistant coordinates and executes complex educational activities, offering specialized support to educators and taking on greater administrative and pedagogical responsibilities within the classroom with a higher degree of autonomy. This professional plays a crucial role in supporting and coordinating educational activities within the institution, closely collaborating with the educational team to ensure the efficient operation of academic programs. The Senior Assistant provides administrative support, coordinates educational initiatives, and assists in addressing the needs of learners and educators.
Key Responsibilities
- Learner Support: Provide individual or small group support to learners, including academic assistance, behavioral support, and emotional support as needed. Identify needs for additional out-of-class support.
- Classroom Assistance: Assist educators with classroom management, instructional activities, and administrative tasks such as grading or preparing materials. Translate and review learner performance reports, organize and post on educational platforms like Toddle with the guidance of the lead educator, correct activities, and prepare the learning space before, during, and after lessons.
- Specialized Support: Collaborate with educators to adapt teaching practices to meet the specific needs of learners. Insert notes and reflections on projects covered in class with attention to differentiation. Develop texts in both English and Portuguese according to the guidance of the lead educator.
- Support in Extra Activities: Provide support during extracurricular activities and events.
- Safety Monitoring: Help maintain a safe and secure environment by supervising learners in the classroom and common areas such as hallways, cafeteria, and playground, promptly reporting any safety concerns to the appropriate personnel. Responsible for the arrival and dismissal process, ensuring learners are only released to registered guardians.
- Data Collection: Collect data on learner progress, attendance, behavior incidents, or other relevant information to inform instructional planning and decision-making. Ensure that relevant information is shared with the lead educator or leadership. Maintain records of activities with pending tasks.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy or a related field. Additional education or training in teaching, child development, or related areas is desirable.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication abilities, the ability to work collaboratively with learners, educators, and staff, patience, empathy, and flexibility.
- Knowledge: Basic understanding of educational principles and practices, ideally with familiarity in assistive technology, educational strategies, and behavior management techniques. Intermediate knowledge of technology applications.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of prior experience as an Intern, Monitor, or Assistant.
