Infection Prevention and Control (IPC):
IPC is everyone’s responsibility. All staff are required to read and implement the NMC IPC Policy and Strategy in an effort to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness at all times, thus reducing the risk of infection in patients, staff and visitors.
The strictest hand hygiene compliance encompassing, 5 moments of hand hygiene, bare below the elbows and environmental care, will be expected of all staff, including the post holder, at all times.

Specialized Nurse will:
- Develop and maintain a learning culture amongst nurses, particularly in the specialist field in which they work.
- Be an expert registered nurse s with advanced education, training or certification in their specialized area of practice. Specialty practice may be defined by population, clinical setting a disease/medical subspecialty and type of care or type of problem.
- Be a role model and always seek to improve the safety and quality of care delivered to patients in the specialist field.
- Be a member of the interprofessional team as a subject matter expert in his/ her field of specialization.
- Support and lead audit and data collection in their area of specialisation for KPIs and benchmarking.
- Support the nurse educator with training programs, training needs analysis within the specialised field.
- Support patient care, educating patients and the public about various health conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
- Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan and treatment.
- Perform systematic patient assessment, re-assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient’s health or situation.
- Understand and analyse the assessment information and data.
- Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues.
- Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient’s planned care.

- Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed.
- Conduct ongoing surveillance of HAIs using standardized DOH/MOH/DHA/CDC/NHSN definitions.
- Monitor compliance with isolation precautions, antibiotic usage, and outbreak thresholds.
- Participate in the development and annual review of the Infection Control Risk Assessment and Infection Control Plan.
- Educate on specific topics including infection prevention and control programs such as standard precautions, safe injection practices, asepsis, surgical site infection prevention, linen management, and respiratory hygiene. Provide feedback and training based on surveillance and audit findings.
- Coordinate departmental PCI document management including checklists, posters, forms, and audit tools.
- Collaborate with facilityleaders to ensure integrationof IPC policies into clinical and operational workflows.
- Participate in internal and external audits and accreditation processes (e.g., JCIA, DOH, DHA, MOH).
- Conduct regular hand hygiene audits, waste management inspections, and PPE usage checks.
- Conduct investigation, complete fact-finding report and use root cause analysis tools to evaluate infection incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in quality and safety rounds, and in hospital accreditation activities.
- Act as a key liaison between departments and the IPC Committee.
- Report surveillance outcomes to Quality and Safety Committees, Executive Medical Committee, and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain effective communication with staff at all levels to promote IPC awareness and compliance.
- Follow the reporting system according to the organization's/ facility policy.
- Lead investigations into suspected outbreaks, coordinate containment measures, and document findings.
- Activate Code Orange (mass infectious disease events) when required and conduct simulation drills.
- Collaborate with public health authorities for notification of notifiable diseases.
- Evaluate areas under construction or renovation for infection risk.
- Collaborate with engineering and housekeeping to mitigate environmental infection risks.
- Conduct risk assessments related to exposure to communicable diseases among staff.
- Support proper waste management and sterilization practices.
- Liaise with Employee Health Clinic for vaccination programs and follow-up on staff exposures.
- Provide recommendations for work restrictions following exposure to communicable diseases.
- Ensure compliance with OSHMS (Occupational Safety and Health Management System) standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Valid DOH/DHA/MOH license as Registered Nurse.
- Certification in Infection Control (e.g., CIC, CBIC) preferred or required within 1 year of appointment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Strong knowledge of epidemiology, sterilization, and disinfection practices.
- Excellent communication, teaching, and coordination skills.
Responsibilities
Registered Nurse will:

- Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations.
- Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope such as but not limited to Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation etc.
- Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.
- Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions.
- Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions.
- Provide wound care management.
- Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed.
- Facilitate the process of safe patient`s admission, transfer and discharge.
They will work with a team of physicians and other health care specialists or allied health in various settings.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Have an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualifications and experience these mandates.
- Manage their own professional re-licensure.
- Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
- Be willing to work across departments when necessary.
- Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written)
Desirable:
- Evidenced ability to work as part of an inter-professional team.
- Organizational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.
