Your future role
You will take responsibility for the successful and safe delivery of contractual commitments and to the achievement of the business plan. To provide 24/7 cover across the production function within the depot. To ensure that production targets, quality standards and safety requirements are achieved through the execution of the production plan and through the efficient management of resources. Ensure that trains are delivered on time in a safe, clean and fully functional condition to our customers.
We’ll look to you to:
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of Wimbledon Depot complies with the Depot Operations Plan with respect to:
- All safety critical arrangements are in place to safeguard staff.
- All rules for pedestrians, vehicles, staff, and contractors are adhered to.
- Responsible for fault and incident reporting for related incidents, near misses and accidents at either Wimbledon Depot or the Outstations.
- Ensure all Maintenance Services and Production activities are carried out in accordance with procedures, manuals, handbooks, and instructions.
- Conduct periodic quality audits ensuring the correct detailed information is being entered into the MMS utilised on Depot.
- Minimise depot-operating costs and maximise depot-operating efficiencies through effective depot resource planning and controlling of production overtime, while ensuring delivery of the Depot Daily Plan.
- Actively promote 5S, Lean maintenance philosophies and methodologies.
- Support Kaizen workshops in line with the Business plans.
- Manage the Production Teams (or Workshop and Wheel Lathe Teams).
- Monitor and control Production on a shift-by-shift basis.
- Ensure that accountability for production is clearly defined and delegated, including the handover of shifts.
- Identify people requirements for budgeted fixed workload ensuring flexibility and high levels of productivity are achieved.
- Manage organisational change to optimise working practices and thus ensure a productive workforce.
- Ensure all Production meets the Safety and Quality requirements of internal standards and customer specifications.
- Monitor working practices and environment to ensure that people and facilities meet the mandatory and/or statutory requirements.
- Identify training and other resource needs to facilitate production in the most effective way.
- Ensure work is performed in a safe, effective manner and in accordance with the H&S at Work Act, Rules and Regulations, Railway Group Standards, SWR Standards and ALSTOM Policies and Procedures.
- Review work plans with Production Managers to ensure daily production targets are met as effectively and efficiently as possible.
- Maintain good industrial relations within area of responsibility, implementing disciplinary procedures for any serious staff irregularities - maintain a well-disciplined workforce.
- Proactively identify areas for improvement by personal check, analysis of trains incident reports and complaints, initiating action to ensure improvements. Manage and carry out these investigations.
- Coach and develop individuals and the teams to improve performance and identify potential.
- Responsible for ensuring IT systems are updated and where required concluded in relation to work done.
- Ensure that where applicable, documented Quality procedures are adhered to.
- Ensure that job times are controlled, issued and updated as necessary.
- Plan and control leave entitlement for Production Team Members within set guidelines to meet the Business Plan.
- Encourage continual professional development for staff within your areas of responsibility.
- Maintain contact with High-Level Technicians, Engineers and Rolling Stock Technicians throughout shift.

- HNC/HND in engineering or recognised equivalent.
- First experience in team management preferably within the maintenance environment.
- Experience of electronics, pneumatics and mechanics.
- Experience working within a Rolling Stock Maintenance environment preferable.
- History of work in a process/production environment.
- Working knowledge of Quality and Health & Safety standards and systems preferable.
- IT literate with knowledge of Office & Tablet applications.
- Knowledge of Rail industry IT systems, SAP.
- Understanding of Urban Trains business and its Customer requirements.
- Knowledge and understanding of TFL / Network Rail Rules and Regulations.
