Apprentice - Rail Engineering Technician/Fitter: L3 - (Crewe) 2025

About The Role:

This role is based at our Crewe site.

Our Rail Engineering/Fitter Apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to learn about supporting operational activities around overhaul and maintenance of bogies, wheelsets, traction motors, pantographs, HVAC units and Construction of new build bogies for HS2. You will work as part of a multifunctional team, supporting operational activities.

You will also be involved in:

  • The overhaul and maintenance of bogies, wheelsets, traction motors, pantographs and HVAC unit
  • The construction of the new build bogies for HS2
  • Participate in company initiatives, particularly in Continuous Improvement activity
  • Participate in STEM & other Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives
  • Comply with Alstom Procedures and the Code of Ethics
  • Carry out general depot duties
  • Provide basic maintenance competency
  • Carry out depot cleaning/general housekeeping
  • Carry out Testing activities in accordance with pre-written test procedures

As part of the apprenticeship programme, you will be working towards completing a Level 3 Diploma in Rail Engineering Knowledge, and the Level 3 Competency in Rail Engineering. Over the programme, you will be combining academic studies with real-life work-based experience across our organisation.

This apprenticeship programme is the start of your progression into technical expert roles. We are looking for innovative and ambitious talent to become our future leaders and senior managers- upon completion of the apprenticeship programme, there will be the opportunity to step up into these roles.

Entry Requirements:

  • GCSE or equivalent in 5 subjects including Maths, English and Science at Grades 5-9

Candidates will also need to have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a team.
