We are looking for a passionate and personable General Manager to lead our al fresco cocktail bar, Ida’s Bar, located in the heart of Gillman Barracks. With a menu inspired by lush, botanical surroundings, Ida’s Bar is a unique space that combines vibrant flavours with a serene ambience.
In this role, you’ll oversee all aspects of the bar’s business, prioritising sales growth, exceptional customer experiences, and high service standards. You’ll lead the team on the ground to create a welcoming atmosphere while collaborating across departments to establish Ida’s Bar as a must-visit destination for locals, business travellers, and tourists.
As a versatile venue that also serves as an event space and floral studio, you’ll work with Ida’s events team to ensure seamless execution of weddings, luxury activations, corporate events, and community initiatives.
We’re looking for a leader who values structure and efficiency, and who can inspire the team with a positive, hands-on approach. A talent for building strong customer relationships, delivering memorable experiences, and a commitment to service excellence is essential. Familiarity with P&L management is a bonus but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
Bar Management
● Oversee and positively impact all business areas, including sales, cost management, employee retention, guest service and satisfaction, food quality, and overall cleanliness and sanitation.
● Supervise shifts and maintain a strong presence on the floor, engaging with guests to ensure an exceptional experience.
● Set a high standard of hospitality and service, consistently leading by example.
● Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with vendors and business partners.
● Create growth and learning opportunities for team members to develop their skills.
● Take full ownership of business outcomes to drive sales and profitability.
● Proactively anticipate and address the restaurant’s needs.
● Stay well-informed about restaurant policies and promptly address any violations with fair, consistent
corrective actions.
● Ensure full compliance with all regulations on health, safety, and labour requirements.
● Develop the business plan and drive the successful launch of daytime service in Q1 2025.
Bar and Events Coordination
● Collaborate with Ida’s events team to ideate and understand clients’ needs and preferences.
● Develop and oversee detailed event timelines, coordinating closely with Ida’s Bar staff to manage
budgets and logistics effectively.
● Coordinate with vendors, including catering and entertainment providers, to offer dynamic and
competitive event packages.
● Ensure flawless event execution that consistently meets or exceeds client expectations.
● Lead post-event evaluations with Ida’s events team to gather insights and refine future events, driving
continuous improvement.
Staff Management
● Recruit, hire, and train team members, including bartenders, barbacks, and servers, to build a high-performing team.
● Foster a collaborative and engaging work environment that positions Ida's Bar as an employer of choice within the F&B industry, focusing on reducing turnover and promoting high employee morale.
● Conduct regular performance evaluations, offering constructive feedback and growth opportunities.
● Ensure all team members adhere to company policies and procedures consistently.
Financial Management
● Prepare and manage budgets for bar operations and events quotations.
● Monitor financial performance, including revenue and expenses, in close collaboration with the in-house
accountant.
● Generate financial reports and forecasts for management review and strategic planning.
Marketing and Promotion
● Work with Ida’s marketing team and external agencies to ensure cohesive branding and messaging.
● Collaborate with Ida’s marketing team to promote events and bar offerings.
● Leverage social media and additional channels to attract and engage potential clients and guests.
Qualifications:
● Flexibility to work varying hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
● Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration, or a related field (preferred).
● Demonstrated experience in event management and bar operations, ideally in a leadership role.
● Strong organisational and multitasking abilities with a focus on attention to detail.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective team and client interactions.
● Proficiency in event management software and point-of-sale systems.
● In-depth knowledge of alcohol laws and regulations.

Physical Requirements:
● Ability to lift and carry items up to 30 pounds.
● Stamina to stand for extended periods and move throughout the venue as needed.
