Senior Engineer: you will design, implement, and maintain the systems and services that form Alpaca’s foundation and empower millions of users trading billions of dollars in assets. You will lead regional recruitment initiatives, guide cross-functional projects, mentor engineers, and foster Alpaca culture in the region. As the lead, you will ensure operational reliability and serve as incident commander during regional business hours to support 24x7 stability.

This role seeks an experienced full-stack engineer committed to delivering seamless, high-quality software solutions. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of designing and building scalable applications, and is comfortable challenging conventions and advocating for innovative solutions. You will architect and implement solutions that meet strategic objectives and collaborate with a cross-functional team on goal setting.

• Design a highly scalable, mission-critical brokerage system.
• Develop and enhance middle and back-office systems, including gRPC microservices, a React-based UI for internal administration and API developers, and third-party vendor integrations.
• Work with Alpaca’s core teams to transform the core framework, enabling support for multiple languages, currencies, and markets.
• Collaborate with regional tech leads, synchronize with global teams via Slack and occasional meetings outside regular hours.
• Troubleshoot incidents and bugs to maintain system integrity and performance.
• Support Alpaca’s international growth by navigating regulatory requirements in a global environment.
• May be on-call to assist with timely engineering projects.

• Experience designing and developing complex financial systems, preferably including double-entry accounting.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, ledger structures, and transaction reconciliation.
• Experience building scalable, high-availability financial applications with multi-currency support.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements in financial markets.
• Proficiency in Go or similar backend languages and solid system-architecture design skills.
• Experience with financial APIs, market data integrations, and trade settlement processes.
• Strong communication skills for collaborating with global teams, regulators, vendors, and stakeholders.
• Strong computer science fundamentals and software engineering architecture experience.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote, globally distributed team and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Strategic thinking to translate technical concepts into business strategies.
• Experience with domain-driven design and event-driven design.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset.
• Ability to act as incident commander and lead troubleshooting with authority.
