Senior Orthopaedic Scrub Theatre Practitioner

We are seeking an experienced Senior Orthopaedic Scrub Theatre Practitioner to join our dynamic Operating Theatres team at The Princess Grace Hospital, rated Good by the CQC. This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of Londons leading private hospitals, home to seven stateoftheart theatres including a hybrid theatre, a dedicated robotic surgery suite, and three laminar flow theatres supporting complex orthopaedic procedures.

You will work alongside worldclass surgeons and cuttingedge technology, including the Da Vinci Surgical System, with over 500 robotic procedures already completed across our sites. Our theatres offer a fastpaced, supportive and highly professional environment where your orthopaedic expertiseparticularly in major elective cases such as hips, knees, shoulders, replacements and revisionswill be valued and developed.

In this role, you will take the lead in running theatre lists, preparing and maintaining the sterile field, and ensuring safe, efficient surgical practice throughout the perioperative journey. As a Senior Orthopaedic Scrub Practitioner, you will play a key role in delivering outstanding care to patients undergoing complex elective orthopaedic procedures, including hips, knees, shoulders, and revision surgeries. You will lead on running theatre lists, preparing theatres, and maintaining a safe, efficient, and well organised surgical environment.

Your specialist skills will be essential in preparing and managing the sterile field, supporting surgeons throughout procedures, and ensuring patient safety across every stage of the perioperative journey. You will also contribute to the development of the team by mentoring junior colleagues and sharing your clinical expertise.

Job responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Orthopaedic Scrub Practitioner to join our highly skilled Operating Theatres team at The Princess Grace Hospital. As a Senior Orthopaedic Scrub Practitioner, you will:

  • Provide highquality, patientcentred care throughout the perioperative journey for a wide range of major elective orthopaedic procedures.
  • Scrub for complex surgeries including hip, knee and shoulder operations, as well as joint replacements and revision procedures.
  • Take responsibility for running theatre lists, ensuring theatres are prepared, equipped and compliant with safety and infectioncontrol standards.
  • Prepare and maintain the sterile field, anticipating the needs of the surgical team and ensuring safe, efficient and effective practice at all times.
  • Support the surgical team intraoperatively, demonstrating advanced knowledge of orthopaedic instrumentation, implants and specialist equipment.
  • Act as a role model within the theatre suite, promoting best practice and upholding the highest standards of patient safety and clinical governance.
  • Mentor, support and guide junior practitioners, contributing to their development and fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with anaesthetic, recovery and wider MDT colleagues to ensure seamless, highquality patient care.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement, audits and initiatives that enhance patient outcomes and theatre efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to all regulatory, professional and organisational standards.
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Significant experience as a scrub practitioner in major elective orthopaedics.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Post registration qualification or training in perioperative practice (desirable).

Experience
  • Significant experience working as a Scrub Practitioner within a theatre environment.
  • Proven experience in major elective orthopaedic surgery, including hips, knees, shoulders, replacements and revisions.
  • Experience leading theatre lists and coordinating theatre activity.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, support and develop junior staff.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team in a fast paced acute setting.
